The Making of a Genocide

The world was silent as they died The victims of a genocide Armenian blood considered cheap Dehumanized, their wounds cut deep Starvation in a desert land A naked, bleeding, hopeless band The relocation just a ruse A Death March of rampant abuse Few decades later, Hitler said, “Forgotten are Armenian dead. Perhaps I too can do the same, for who remembers them by name? I’ll kill the Jews, yes, every one! The world can’t stop me till I’m done!” Another genocide took place For Jews, no favor, mercy, grace. These horrors haunt humanity But who can stop insanity? Now Jews are on the killing side They claim it’s not a genocide Poor Gaza has no wailing wall the bomb blasts made the strongest fall, and wailing’s heard on ravaged streets where children lie in bloodied sheets From rubble rises stifled cries a mother dies with open eyes her arms still clutching baby tight while blasts light up the Gazan night. A father faints beside the grave of children whom he could not save And those who manage to survive Must fight for food to stay alive Though Israel forgot its past, the truth of what they’ve done will last. The word they use? Retaliate! The proper word? Annihilate! Get rid of every single one The work of vengeance must be done A freedom fighter? Terrorist? The slaughtered ones can’t answer this. Instead of useless rhetoric Protect the dying, wounded, sick Wake up and stop this savagery Please do it for humanity! No matter what my choice of word, I grieve for those who died, unheard I groan with shame for what I see The death of human dignity To you who did not raise you voice, Who claimed you really had no choice, one day the genocide will be of loved ones in your family Before you go down to the grave Cry out for someone’s help to save But silence will reverberate For lesson learned was learned too late When your life bleeds out on the ground The world will watch without a sound. "For good people to do nothing" quote comes to mind. Your words are so true. I did a report on the Armenian Genocide in highschool. And it's a shame that some Jews forget their past with the Palestinians... so much injustice in our world. Poignant writing, Eileen.

Thank you, Tom. We're taught to hate from an early age. Indoctrinated to see others a certain way and then hate gives birth to war and genocide. Unfortunate. We are all children of God. Thanks for the visit.

“ The word they use? Retaliate! The proper word? Annihilate!” Couldn’t have said it any better. Unfortunate and heart wrenching to witness what we are today seeing. And shocking that some getaway too with murder, and i agree with your comments and i cant even imagine seeing what you must have seen. Innocent ones are stuck and caught in the evil acts of politicians. nobody deserves it: i pray for peace and for this gen0cide to end. The hate and division this has caused is intense: Congratulations

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. Yes... those who survive will never be the same. They will live with PTSD. Fortunately, I didn't see anyone die. There was an army tank situated on our campus because of the vantage point. We live on a hill and you can see all Beirut from here. We got warnings when the shelling would start so we could run to the shelter. I can't describe that sound of the shelling. My dad would risk his life to put out fire and put the generator on so we could survive in the shelter. That's maybe also why what's happening here effects me so much. May there be a resolution. It's already late... but needed so badly. Thank you for your words of affirmation.

Hello Eileen, I agree with Brandy. Here is a poem I found in 2022 & put it above my poem...www.peopleofar.com (Armenia) Into our homes they came with force To take our ways without remorse.. Erase our past with blood and sweat So we won’t know, so we’d forget.. They made us speak in different tongues So we’d forget our lovely songs.. They made us wear their sullen clothes So we’d forget how garment glows.. They took the heroes from our tales So we’d forget how good prevails...

Oh, dear. Thank you for sharing. What a moving piece. It tugs at my heart. So full of heartache... so full of strength. I've been quite vocal about the Armenian genocide. As the poem says... we can't forget! We musn't ever forget. My mother's family escaped persecution and came to Lebanon as refugees. I've written a poem about the genocide here on the soup... it's called My Mother's Eyes. Perhaps I'll repost. Thank you, dear. Thank you for commenting

They took our brightest and our best So we’d forget how much we’re blessed They took our mothers and our fathers So we’d forget we’re sisters and we’re brothers IT GOES ON & ENDS LIKE THIS… In time we might be able to forgive And they might even show regret But to remember is to live And I’ll be damned if I forget!—PeopleofAR

Thank you, Brandy. I'm so tired of this world. That explains my poem I Hate This World I'm Living In. It's a few poems back on my page. I've lived through the civil war in Lebanon. Bombs landed on our university campus. Fire broke out in the wooded areas. I've spent nights in bomb shelters. I know the fear of bombardment, but what is happening to the Palestinian people is beyond belief. It's premeditated murder. I agree with you. Only God can bring justice. Blessings and thanks

I’m not for genocide on either side. When did this start? October 7th. Did they think nothing would happen to anyone else…did they care? Many Germans besides the Jews suffered. My husband’s grandmother, through adoption could not feed her baby. He died from starvation. One evil brings the downfall of way too many…same in the Ukraine. And why haven’t the prisoners been returned. This world is so troubled! My bro-in-law has kids on the West Bank and grands. Prayers for peace. Congrats on POTD!

I'm sorry to hear about the death of that little one. Honestly... man's inhumanity to man is beyond understanding. I'm not villainizing the Germans. I'm trying to explain how people can come to a place where they see others as subhuman. On that note... Palestinians have been treated as second class citizens way before that. Like I said in my comments below...I don't condone any action that targets innocent people. That being said... just think of the death roll on either side... Surely you can see who is suffering the most. I hope your brother-in-law's family will be safe. Thanks for stopping by

Powerful truth in your poem, but it is not the Jews who are doing this to Gaza, it is the Zionists... It was horrific how the Armenian people were treated and all the other atrocities you mention.. And there are so many many more like the Bengal and Ukrainian Holodomor... and lets not forget about what is happening in Sudan and Congo.. Great poem and well worthy of POTD.. Congrats

Hi, dear. I mentioned Congo in my comments below. There is no differing scale of values placed on human life. All life is percious. I stand corrected. It is the Zionists. I know many Jews are going on protests as well. The world had become a scary place and the innocent pay the price. Thank you for passing by.

"To you who did not raise your voice", I answer, "is cooking one baby a genocide, or is it three? What constitutes a genocide?". Genocide is wrong . Mean intent is wrong. People of Gaza raise your voice against the atrocities of hamas wrongs. And let all leaders take up future policy with Israel leaders. Let's solve this. We'll, I've raised my voice, as asked.

Dear Eileen, Congrats on POTD! You have inked such a powerful message showing the world's silence and inaction, which enable genocides to occur and continue in the first place. You're message is clear, showing how dehumanizing victims is a common tactic used to justify mass killings. The government, along with the media, is also culpable for how often they use misleading language to downplay or justify their actions. I feel your pain when you see the mindless suffering of victims, particularly emphasizing the impact on children and families, which happens way too often in my book. Again, your strong lamentations show the loss of compassion and human dignity that occurs during genocides. Congrats Again! – Blessings and Prayer for Peace, My Friend, Daniel

Thank you, Daniel. I appreciate your words of wisdom. It's a sad time we are living in. Dehumanizing others of different religious and ethnic backgrounds is what fuels hate filled rhetoric which makes people turn a blind eye to such atrocities.

It's ok it happens. Yes, the Prince of Peace will indeed intervene. All the innocents have not died in vain. Every single one is in God's memory. When they are brought back in the new world to come their vindication will be complete, while their oppressors face oblivion. Patience, patience...

I hope so too. You know, Tom, I don't want to cause problems, but...if I don't speak out, I won't be able to live with myself. There are other trouble spots around the world. I know. Armenia is being threatened by Azarbaijan. What about the rohingya genocide? What about what is happening in Congo? The list goes on...but even the world community is speaking out. You should hear Christian Amanpour's interview with the former Israeli defense minister. So appaling. Only the Prince of Peace can end it all. My question is when? Isn't it enough already?

Thank you, Lin, for dropping by. Your comment is the the true reason why all this is happening. I've seen it again and again. World powers get involved if there's some benefit for them. Turkey took over northern Cyprus and no one batted an eye. What was there to gain from getting involved? Iraq took over Kuwait and America and its allies swung into action. Oil. Greed. That is the case here as well. I'll be by to visit you soon.

It is unbelievable it has gone this far. My heart breaks. Living in Lebanon, I know first hand the meaning of war...having lived through the civil war. The South is also being bombarded and we are always on the alert. However, this isn't a war...it's a genocide and I believe that terminology should be used. Thank you for your visit.
Date: 7/11/2024 1:04:00 AM
To compare Gaza with Armenia or the Nazis or any genocide is a complete distortion of what’s going on there. If Israel’s intention was to “annihilate” the Palestinians they could have done it in a week. But all that aside, a very well written piece.

Keith, an orphaned child... who saw his entire family killed, burned, or maimed will grow up to be another Hamas leader. I'm not condoningOct 7. Any loss of innocent life is to be mourned. You have to think of causes. Would you fight to have a home? Would you fight if you were treated as dirt? I don't condone. However, this is not commensurate with Oct 7. I'm sorry. There's no way this is justified.

Hi Eileen. I hear ya, and no one likes the loss of civilian life but a little truth telling can focus the mind. One side has the power to end it all tomorrow but they won’t because the more death and destruction the better for their cause. Only one side is openly calling for the genocide of the other but it seems that’s okay. And only one side started this needless war but somehow Israel has gone too far? There will never be peace or a two state solution until Hamas and their sympathisers are eradicated for good in Gaza. You can’t fight a war without casualties.

Hi, Keith. I expected to see you here. I've read your comments on blogs on this matter. I am not going to engage in any political discussion on this. It will be futile. This isn't a new poem. I wrote this quite some time ago and shared a video recording of it on instagram and on Facebook. I could no longer be silent. A poem Tommy wrote was the impetus to share it here. I was ashamed of myself for not doing it sooner, but I decided to let the chips fall where they may. The loss of life...any life...unjustly should be condemned. Once you see certain people as "less than human", this is what the result is. The bloodshed has to stop. It's gone way too far.

Germany could have done the same in 1939 that's not how Genocides work, not a distortion a fact, and to be clear you have no idea whats happening on the ground, and the bias is also very obvious.

I wore a kafia to university to show my solidarity with the people of Palestine. Yes, it is not easy to speak out especially since we were told not to take sides or post on social media. How can one remain silent when such atrocities are taking place? How? It's beyond me. I've spoken about it in my classes. My brother and his family have gone on several protests. I just think...it breaks my heart when I remember how the world let 1.5 million Armenians, my people, die...I cannot do the same now. My mental health has suffered so much because of this...children being amputated without anesthesia, orphanged, decapitated, burned....and it goes on and on. Being in Lebanon brings it so much closer home. I don't know what to say, Arthur. It's a dark time in history.

Powerful expose of certain realities now present on the world stage. Being JW, I am neutral to the world's political intrigues and military affairs. The only hope for this godless world is the kingdom of God under Christ. Btw, JW's were a special target of the Nazis during WWII, then by Stalin shortly after, now by Putin. There is no true justice in Satan's world Eileen. It just needs to end.

Thanks for passing by, Tom. I didn't know that about the JWs. I'm sorry to know it. I carry the weight of what happened to 1.5 million Armenians by the Turks. Still not acknowledged as a genocide by some countries...US included. Adventists are also not encouraged to take part in politics, but I certainly will raise my voice to bring awareness. God is a God of love... and of justice. No one can escape that. The day is coming when all will be made right.
