Complicated Simplicity

Blog Posted:10/8/2024 11:41:00 AM

I'll post my contest winners now - and yes - what I look for is much like a daydream - most of us can't explain them, they just hover there like the shadow of a cloud that quickly disappears and hmmm, never hovered at all...when you're daydreaming or dreaming or simply thinking, do you add modifiers to your thoughts ~ no, you just simply think, and that is what I look for when I read (not saying you should) - it's just my wish, because all of us gst something different from everything we experience. I want to experience my own complexities from your basic thoughts - I'm bored by ceriuian skies and, actually, you never felt that when experiencing it - you just thought it would be clever to write, even though you never thought it---help me think of those simple complexities without those speedbumps of adjectives and adverbs, except if they are desciptive and please not embellishments. The winner here exemplifies my point, and the line, "In a moment of my connected disconnect" brings to mind a lyric form the song, "It Never Entered My Mind" - "Uneasy in my easy chair" - it's those twists of thought that leaves one dwelling in their own...and, the Graffiti poem has line after line of thoughtful brilliance (just strayed a little - not much - too far from the parlor) Love your poems guys!!

I'm delightfully happy to be on your winning list, Craig. Thank you for considering my entry. To label poets 'elite' is a derogatory term that would suggest anyone on your list considers him or herself to be privileged, powerful, influential in the PS community. Knowing every one of the twelve poets that have placed, I find no reason to call any of them by such a disparaging name. Especially from someone who claims to be a peacemaker. Your assessment of that person seems to be on target, Craig. I'm grateful for those fine poets who continue to take an active part in this community despite such negative comments.

Um, perhaps you missed the fact that it was in Craig's comment to Andrea that the term "elite" was used. Did you wish to edit your comment?

There's not a darn thing wrong with it, Craig. I feel privileged to have found a site to post my poetry and have it appreciated.

deservedly so Lin & this is not to condemn nor celebrate, but...now that it's been noted -- elite we shall be!! and what is the matter with that? It is by no means an exclusive club---everyone is welcome!

Cerulean is blue, magenta is red, lemon is yellow, poetry a simple flow.

The elites Tom - please elaborate? Do you not take pride, nor strive for the best you can be...the best that your God would wish for you or, better yet, that you could or should wish for yourself and others? I wish you would read Arthur Miller's "The Smile at the Foot of the Ladder" because it is about you - a lost soul -- find it - I pray you do...

I do, but I would never consider my self an elitist, nor would I want anyone to think of me that way. Just the opposite, in fact. I'm not interested in being popular, just in taking a stand for what I feel to be fair, just and right, even if it puts me at odds with the so-called elite. My poetry gets a lot of attention and support. I'm content with that

Ahh yes, the elites. Sigh

I have lost a lot of your free verse type contests because you well know that I lean more toward narrative than actual free verse writing. I have such admiration for those who are skillful with free verse. . I am just thankful you also like sonnets!

I love Dilly Dally's unique writing style! And thanks for your thought provoking blog Craig, your contest, your rules and your decision of the winners:-) And it does help poets to think out of the box when they see your contest winners and what YOU are looking for as a sponsor.

I'll say one thing Craig, the best gift I have ever been given was an anonymous gift of a PM for the site, I wanted to make that person proud of me by learning as much as I can, and in 10 years I have grown so much in confidence. some may consider me just a poop poet but there is more to me than that:-)

Jan, I try not to be ordinary----though my wife (my best friend) doesn't say I'm extraordinary--except what does the "extra" prefix connote anyway? (I'm afraid to ask) Thanks Jan, you are elite here, in my mind, and that need not mean a snob, nor anything of the sort - but, it means a valuable contributor in both writing and thought!

Thank you Danny, that's a fantastic comment and appreciated. Craig's contests require a bit of striving so I play around with the ideas and write and rewrite, so I'm thrilled when it works out.
