If you were in a race and 10 people tied for first and then 10 people tied for the next finishers and then you came next---what place did you finish in? Just wondering?

Hi Craig, who cares as long as they all survived, 1st 2nd or last, they all made it. xx

The bottom line is that those contests are not contests - just cat licks - just floating across the pond and not truly challenging "the bar".

how do you tell those who believe in an illusion of their own making that they don't know what they don't know?
Date: 9/30/2022 11:50:00 AM
if there are 21 people in the race and I came in last it really doesn't matter where everyone else came in

But then, I'm not asking where everyone else finished--am I?---nor do I care--it's all a lost cause anyway---actually everyone's a loser anyway in this environment we exist in...

Craig If I am not mistaken this system of Judging is flawed. It is flawed because the contestant really does not know exactly where they finished in the contest. I guess the intention of this type of contest of judging, is to reward as many contestants as possible. It is a nice way of making everyone feel like they are a winner being in 1st, 2nd and 3rd placement, but in all reality a true realization is that this form of judging is more to recognizing everyone on the winning side of the spectrum, as apposed to a more accurate placement, for a contest. I personally feel a contest of a system of numbering from the best to the worst in placement, is a better way of judging and more accurate for the contestant...

in the contest. So I guess, if I may, give my advice. It would be better to enter a contest that does not use this form of placement avoiding ambiguity. I think the question posed, should be posed to the judge how he sees where the contestant placed. His answer is the one that counts, and you can have a better idea, and a better know, of where you placed... I like you have always wondered how you can have so many 1st place winners, it to me doesn't make sense but that is me thinking now, no one else. lol...

Was it a premiere race or a standard one?

Good question, you mean live pitching or t-ball?
Date: 9/25/2022 5:57:00 PM
You finished first in your "age group" (defined as everybody born on the same day). And for the low, low price of $40 they'll sell you a race jersey to commemorate your achievement!

Interesting logic-now, perspective and relativity might argue that if it were a math test and 10 got 100 and 10 got 98 and you got a 96 that you got the third highest grade which is true except that 20 people finished in front of you. In the Olympics where there are 3 medals per event, if there's a tie for first, they give out 2 golds and the next finisher gets a bronze, not a silver and next gets nothing. In pro golf,if you tie for second with 10 others, the purse is added totaled up between 2 through 11,divided by 10 and shared equally but the next best score doesn't get the purse for third, they get 12th place. If I ran a race and 20 finished in front of me I got 21st-or last as Hilo says

3rd I'd say, first ten are joint first, second ten joint second then whoever came next third... Others may say 21sd.

Definitely 21st, but one could look on the bright side and say you finished 1st in the 3rd group.

At the New England cross country championships (High School) there were 200 runners (I was a Soph) & my coach said I want you in the top 100 - I finished 99th - Hey, got it done! Certainly, if the 98 in front of me had tied for first and I dragged my sorry ass across the finish line a few minutes later I truly couldn't claim 2nd place LOL - but, yes, I was first in the second group - like your answer best...but then...as this circle goes, is everyone correct? hmm, depends on perspective or want thereof I suppose?!

Hmmm...well there are ten people in the first finish. Then, there are ten people in the second finish ("next finishers"), so I suppose you would finish 21st...if you lump all of the first ten together as one. Then lump all of the second ten together as two, then I'd say you came in 3rd. It depends on how you look at it. Eh? I suppose you are trying to make a point here, Craig? If so, you can always count down the list of names and wherever your name falls, that is the place you finished in. (chuckling)
