I picked more poems than usual to place and even then was torn with both those I jilted and the order of those I chose. There are so many eclectic levels and expressions of emotion and often I question my own self imposed rule about multiple placement versus singular, but I must stick to my guns on this. So, after 5 days of back and forth with all except for one, I hope to explain why I ordered them as I did. The clear choice for me in form and substance was Greg Barden's poem  "The Mortal Blight". His creative use of nearly perfect dactylic prosody coupled with a message that, like always, makes one feel like they are watching a movie trailer that leaves you wanting to see the whole movie. I tossed choice #2 many times from an N/A to where it is because it represents the form Blank Verse like few ever do. Dale's poem "I am not Brave" uses iambic tetrameter perfectly without allowing it to infect his artistic message and analogy of nature and life and lines like "I'm not the swan of human myth" are worthy of a painting. I do realize. btw, that he did exceed the approxinate by a couple lines which is why I almost N/A'd it but it was just way too excellent to do that. The worst poem (just kidding) "The Worst" by LuLoo is #3 more because of its poignancy than its meter, really hit me from the first read because its emotion screams to be heard. Lewis Raynes at #4 had an artful mix of mostly anapest and iamb to present his touching story of deepest love. At #5 Lonna Blodgett's "The Artful Confession" had some hiccups in meter but her mix and metphor of painting and love was irresistable. #6 Goeffrey Brewer's "It isn't Me" mostly in iambic pentameter, again with trips, but with the creative recollections of a self-effacing 80 year old. #7 Janice Thompson's "Something I Am Not", mostly in iambic pentameter was a poignant write about lost love, anger and mixed memories. #8 John Gondoff's "What I Am Not" is a wonderful "in your face" write about being fed up with being used, written in an iambic mix - (John is one of our more talented writers in metric forms). #9 Bryn Strudwick, "This is not Me" presented a perfect example of a parent trying to make decisions for a child/man and wrote a perfect quatorzane in iambic pentameter. #10 Sandra H, "Something I Am Not" wrote a clever poem about gossip  in perfect iambic pentameter. Andrea always writes in excellent meter, in this case iambic pentameter and honesty about friends. #12 Frederick Parker's "Most Relevant" well done iambic pentameter about overcoming doubt. The next two (both at #13) by Nina "Mist and Circumstance" and Sandra "The Clock Still Strikes" were my favorite poems poetically but were too far off on the meter to be truly in form. Let me say again though the substance was really great writing. (Not surprised since Sandy and Nina are very talented poets. Nina, if you are writing a novel you must find somewhere to include this because it is truly great poetic prose.
Rob Carmack #15 "His Grace" - I loved the substance of Rob's poem but couldn't feel the meter. I looked for originality with creativity, something new and unexpected, emotion, and in the case of Blank Verse some consistency of meter to carry the thoughts.Thanks to everyone who took the time to write.

I see Keith has likened you to Simon, but you know for me, it's Billy Baroo forever! Thanks for hosting and for my placement. I like how you explain the rationale for your placements. One of the reasons making your contests one of the most worthy.

Ha - I imagine so, Rob! I spent a number of years on the road in bands, (from Greenland to Reno), and every band I ever played in had TWO movies that took up the majority of "down" time - "This Is Spinal Tap" and "Caddy Shack" ... if you didn't know those two by heart, well, you just were NOT a true tour group, lol! ;o)

Many sincere thanks for my wonderful placement, Craig, and the kind comments about my poem ... I have come to love Blank Verse, and consider it my favorite form, (though I haven't written very many - hope to remedy that). I wasn't sure how this one, hemmed with a bit of darkness, would fare, but I am pleasantly surprised by its placement, and so appreciative that you found it worthy. Thanks for this great challenge, as I can always count on learning some things in your contests, and that's why I'm here, personally ... if we stop learning and growing we might as well stop writing, as that's what keeps us young, and our work fresh and imaginative.
