Having entered the ‘Age of AI’
our spines to mush have turned
Bridges to common sense burned
our Luddite instincts we’ve let fly
Fear, the dominant emotion
folks ready to drown in the ocean…
The motorcar was to lead to debauchery
a dramatic increase in teenage pregnancy
The computer would replace human beings
life would lose all meaning
The motorcar and the computer we’ve somehow survived
Last I checked, more and more people alive
Perhaps we’ll manage to survive AI too
Come Halloween, don’t forget to say ‘Boo!’
I never told you what I felt
I kept it all to myself
Darkness filling up my soul
Emotions spun out of control
Evil thoughts circled my brain
My heart feeling so much pain
There was so much going wrong
Happening for way to long
Day by day it just got worse
My silence was like a curse
That would leave me so unsteady
Because I was never ready
To share what was deep inside
Each night I secretly cried
Because words I needed to say
To you would just slip away
Every time I tried to seek
The courage I'd become weak
Now I sit here with one thought
Why I never really fought
The angered demons way down deep
Just one whisper or a peep
From my lips right to your ears
Might have taken all my fears
Away -- but I was not that smart
Now its too late I broke the heart
Of a friend I've known forever
Who stood by me through stormy weather
But this raincloud that follows me
Left both of us in misery
IN BEING FLOWERS OF HIS
Be in God’s life-vase;
Your petals, ever blooming,
His bouquets of love:-
autumn shakes threadbare
spent leaves loosen from brown stems
each clings to the bough
waiting for the tug of wind
to show buds in leaf axils
one leaf lies pressed flat
between pages seldom turned
kept from rain and light
its veins mirror buried roots
grounding what the leaf recalls
wine darkens the glass
one mouthful remains untouched
thirst catches its shine
sweetness ripens when restrained
the tongue leaves a taste behind
on dust-silver shelves
each book keeps its well-thumbed leaves
spines remember hands
binding what the years recall
in their dog-eared aftermath
names fade from old cards
ink gives way to the humdrum
old contacts grow pale
what I leave for others' eyes
means nothing to their kind ghosts
leaf settles on leaf
each layer hides another
last in, first recalled
gathered from one's only life
their weight growing underneath
neither dusk nor dawn
can deceive me about leaves
I shed, keep, forgo
forget, give away, hold back—
each leaves something of a life
Run away with me,
But if fear should find you first,
Meet me in my dreams.
The winds blow bleak and torrential against my face.
I’m told it’s much to bear and my ship will be wrecked.
But, I see the wind and so strengthen my mainbrace
For me the wind has an unexpected effect.
I set my back strong to the wind and filled my sails.
Let it blow how it might, it will take me onward.
Before the brightness of the sun ev’rything pales.
In that valiant hope I set my true course dawnward.
How near doth Time now stand upon the verge!
Upon our days is fallen Judgment's shade.
One woe grows still, then doth another surge,
And close behind, a third comes undelayed.
Then bitter cold shall strike, and famine loom,
Our hopes shall pass beyond the shrouded bier;
The city that we cherished, once so dear,
By Heaven's will, and war, shall meet its doom.
Believe not, people, that peace shall ever reign,
For Time already gazes into naught;
No end at all thereto shall e'er be brought—
The war returned, forever to remain.
One door closes, another opens
different phases oft find us half-asleep
Like the moon, they wax and wane regularly
though folks don’t always see
Conditioned to think they’re spread out
they can come in bunches
Disrupting our mindsets
evading our hunches
And when we think we’ve reached the end
another phase may lie around the bend
To shake us from complacency
to stir the pot ~ to bury reverie
As the leaf of life sleeps upon my lips,
It's as if I've returned from a faraway trip.
It's unfortunate that her sleep won't last;
That her reclining will rapidly pass.
She is the Autumn Season of my life
She's the seasoning that is 'just right.
She would love to linger longer or even stay.
Lord, let her return to visit, I sincerely pray.
She calms my spirit and cools my fiery tongue;
Relakes me, assuring me that I'm not alone.
When the soul-stars dream and die,
Will you be with me when I hurt and cry?
Leaf of life, may there be replacement for you,
If ever for any reason you and I are through.
For now, I'm pleased to have you so near.
The feel of you and the gentle wind is so dear.
Life’s a lucid dream where we are in trance,
so we reflect on musings created,
in imaginary realms where we dance,
our roles shape shifting, stooped stance sedated,
at times sorrowful, at times elated.
Having not made love and light our mainstay,
our dreams betray that we have lost our way.
but while walking through
the botanical gardens in Florence
it was all my husband
could focus on
He told me as we huffed it up the hill
that they built a cemetery on top
for morons like us
Neither of us looked up
at the symmetry of trees
or the truest blue
of the Mediterranean
that winked at us
in clean clarity below
Ten years of marriage
equates to hiking up a hill in July
and sweating in the hope
of something special ahead
“Keep walking, less talking”
I told him
Every turn brought another hill
Even the air was tired of constant providing
We didn’t find squirrels
but there were plastic chairs
next to the cemetery
“Remember me, O my God, for good.” — Nehemiah 13:31
May the lantern
of my memory
shine like bright gold
as hope of renewal
sustains me
from late summer
through winter’s end
BE YOUR REALITY
“To be or not to be…?”
Often, a misunderstood question
Of self-reality; failing to realize
That God has given us the power
To affect how it should, and will be:-
It has been written, and repeated:
Ask, seek, and knock; and its
Given, found, and opened:-
That is, when we choose to do so,
In awareness that we are in charge
Of choosing what affects our reality:-
As one author has succinctly put it,
Our…”reality is not what happens
Around us, but how we respond to it.
Thus, how acquaintances act around us
Is their reality; our perception, our reality:-
In our daily lives with peers and family,
We must come to realize the power
We have in affecting our own reality:-
All too often, our reactions to others’ realities,
Tend to negate our own healing realities:-
Know and accept your power
Affecting your reality. Let no one
Or anything deter its joyful coming to be.
Thus, go back to life’s mirror and notice
What you see: One of God’s beautiful
Creatures looking back at thee.
Know that your desired reality,
Is your given responsibility:-
The Difference Between
Me And You Is: I'm
Not You.
This Time.
You Can - I Can't.
Perfectly Balanced!
The Difference Between
It And Not It...

-----please pipe down----
IS NOT IT!!!!
----nothing isn't----
IS Undefined.
