Dabbling in Poetry Forms - Contest Judged

Thanking all the participants who entered their poems in my contest. As I had first thought I'd select only 10, I couldn't when I saw the poems. They were such an interesting mix of forms, which I hadn't truly expected. I loved them, took great pleasure in reading them.. I develop a fondness for the poems which I receive in my contests and I get a feeling like those poems that you send to me, share with me are partly mine too, since I easily attach to everything that comes close.

Judging this contest was a great deal of hard work. The poems which placed higher were to me like a revelation made through art! The level of difficulty in writing those forms, what profound emotion I could read, craftsmanship of words and phrases, a uniqueness that I was looking for; and also the beauty and originality of thought in some of those poems just blew me away. I also considered the length of poems , but not always since sometimes it is a short poem that grabs your attention more and reaches to you, rather than a long wishy-washy and tedious write.

I made an exception this time, where I overlooked the rules,, 1. The poem- "Pictures at an Exhibition..." got placed, even though it was not exactly in the category of definite structured verse I'd asked for. I couldn't eliminate it still. The poetic material simply overwhelmed me... and 2. Dr Ram's Poem, where his name got mentioned(I'm sure erroneously)but here also, because of it's excellent form which I wanted introduced, and it being very wisely written with that element of cuteness I love so much. I simply love that child like quality when I see in a poem. So, I kept them. I deducted 1 point from each and placed them one place lower.
