I Heard Mother

I Heard Mother
(to tune of "I Saw Mother Kissing Santa Clause")

I heard Mother scolding Santa's elf
As I prowled the house on Christmas Eve.
He'd hid in St. Nick's sleigh
And then sneaked out to play
After having waited for his boss to fly away.
Mother caught him gobbling all our snacks
After he tore open every gift.
Oh, when she glared down at his face,
He went scrambling from our place
Screaming, "Santa, stop the sleigh-
I need a lift!"

For Silent One's 'Your first poem on Poetry Soup' Poetry Contest
I believe it was Dec. 23 of 2009 right before Christmas!

Wow your first ever poem, eleven years ago and know you have millions... a lovely take on the song.. This was not really a contest, it was an opportunity to showcase your first poem and I am glad you entered. Thank you.

It was Christmas when I joined, too, Andrea, (two years ago), so that time of year will always be even more special now. I don't think I wrote any Christmas poems that year, though ... not sure why not(?) ... maybe being new and a bit shy/tentative. This is fun! Blessings, Buddy! :-) <3

Linda Marie Sweetheart was one of the first to comment on your poem. It's nice to see that The Soup doesn't remove comments so that we can look back and feel the love. This is a great first poem Andrea, you have contributed much to this community.

I do believe that will be the last time that I've ever rips up another gift or eats all the food. Because I know a mother's glare. That is a stair no man can bear. Because the love in a mother's heart is beyond compare. And a mother always wants her child to be treated Fair. Beautiful poetry Andrea.

Andrea, I wanted to read your first poem on the soup, and it is delightful, amazing you have been here since 2009, oh the leaps and bounds in your writing is amazing, although I love this 7, and thanks for visiting my poem, creepy cat, it is disgusting how my lovable little ball of fur can transform into a horrific, murdering feline ...
