A Gift

As I lay with my sister, Beverley on her hospital bed planning her funeral she suddenly said to me " I would like to donate my eyes"
Her cancer would not allow her to give any organs because she had Leukemia.
But her cancer could not stop her from giving one last gift to a person she would never know and never meet and never see, ever!
Her gift would give someone else a new life and hope with sight.
I was so proud of my sister that day because she asked to sign the donors card right away and the Nurse took care of all the details.
I watched in awe as my dear generous sister gave her last gift.
Looking at me with a smile on her pale face she said.
"There, that's done"
But, no it would never be "done" because weeks later I received a certificate stating that indeed her retina had been used and someone out there could see all the beauty in the world that my sister had seen, all the love and goodness in life so wonderful.
Her gift of love
We may not have the chance to decide how we want our last days to be or what will be said at our funeral or things we never did but should have done
but we can give a gift
Give something to someone in your life to make a difference!
Love from Beverley's sister
