The Forever Sleep

before lowering
the satin lined lid of the casket
let me watch him for awhile
perfect skin so smooth
a cowlick always out of control
eyelids hiding eyes once so blue and clear
now dull and empty in his forever sleep
as I touch his cold hand one last time
no warmth no life
I gently kiss his pale lips as he takes
a piece of my heart

I can relate. My oldest son passed. I wrote numerous poems expressing my feeling. If you like to, you can check out my poems.
