I Was Not Done With Him

I was not done with him
preparing him for life
teaching him how to slow dance
watching him play
helping him do his homework
life got stolen that day
the shadow does not grow smaller
I know I am not the only one
but a nagging sense of pointlessness
robs my sleep
invades my dreams
leaving me with no more energy
to cry
