All She Wrote
Laying on the pillow
where she used to rest her head.
Somehow I knew I'd hate to hear...
that single word I read.
No reason for the leaving
as far as I could see.
No long goodbyes or letters,
just one word left for me.
Not a single explanation
not a sign left as to why.
I can't understand it
no matter how I try.
She wasn't even angry
her heart not filled with sorrow.
Not one time did she mention
that she'd be gone tomorrow.
I can see it there across the room
in the soft pale moonlights glow.
A little piece of paper
with everything I need to know.
I've been reading it for hours
I can't make it sink in.
What I read a hundred times
I need to read again.
Right there on her pillow
on a yellow Post It note.
She never even said I'm sorry,
goodbye was all she wrote.
