Locked Out With No Key - Joyce Johnson's Blog

What can I say?  My picture above shows you that I have lived a long time.  It was taken in 2008 for our church registry. 

I was a stay at home mom until my last child was in school.  I was widowed when I was forty four and was glad that I was already employed at the local radio station.  I stayed in the same job for thirty years and after I retired at 65 and took a trip to Europe with a friend, I started working again and stayed for another ten years.  I have only been writing poetry since 1999 when I wrote to relieve my grief when my only son died.  I married again four years after my husband died and was widowed again in 1995.  I am an avid gardener and belong to two local garden clubs and am on the board of the district club and state garden club so have lots of meetings to attend. I have my own poetry corner in the state garden club's publication. I live in my home by myself and rent my farm land to a local bulb grower.  I am surrounded by beauty.  All of mv family lives close to me.  Two daughters, six grandchildren,
eleven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. We live in Washington State in Northwest Washington and love it here.

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later to someone who plays with toys she doesn't understand.

I went back to look for a poem I had written and saved sometime ago and was unable to retrieve it. And then found to my horror that most of the poems except for those written in the past year are completely beyond my reach.  A message came up that my poem had been installed with a program  I no longer had or something to that effect. I followed the few inadeqate instructions to try to correct the matter but of course I failed. My daughter has had  a program installed on my computer that allows her to hook into mine and fix minor problems.  I had to wait until she was off work and home so meanwhile I spent the day worrying that I would never see my output again except what is still hanging around on forums such as this.

She came back with some easy instructions that even I can understand.  I sat for hours pulling up poems one at a time to make them accessible.  I finally realized that I can retrieve them slowy as I need them and went to bed.  Joyce

God bless you Joyce. I'm not that computer literate and usually my son bails me out. I posted a picture on facebook of my daughter's cat and don't know how I did it. Good luck in the future.

Whenever you write a poem, always print it out. Then you will always have it.

gosh, joyce, I have no idea what program could have been so difficult for you. Once the poems are up at Soup, I figured they could all be accessed equally. I do know that a lot of poets are not aware that many poets here have many more than 200 poems here, and the way to see them is not difficult, however, the way Soup changed things here, it's hard for newbies to realize we have all these poems stored here under our names. I used to enjoy how we could access all our poetry according to "form" but when Soup redid things here, we lost that benefit and now we can only find poetry by forms according to the last four pages! THis makes it really tedious for me to locate my poems now. I spend sometimes an hour tracking down one little poem whose title I forgot, but if I knew its form, I could have easily found it in seconds (in the good old days!!)

My son is constantly reminding me back up everything I do on the computer: on a hard drive, or stick drive, or even hard copy (paper) so it does not 'disappear'. I am glad you were able to retrieve your earlier work.
