On the Cross

Jesus had to die to save us.
Calmly He accepted fate.
"Crucify Him! Crucify Him", they cried.
They nailed Him to the cross and mocked him.
Suffering for humanity in obedience to his Father
He hung between two thieves and told them ,
"Believe in Me and you will be saved."
Darkness fell across the whole land
And at three o'clock he died.
Mary His Mother had stayed beside Him.
As they took Him from the cross, she left,
Not really knowing that in three days,
Her beloved Son would rise again.
Those who love Him wear a cross around their necks.

The strength and dignity with which Christ accepted crucifixion to compensate for mankind's sins are clearly reflected in your beautiful poem, Joyce. I admire your faith as well as your writing talent. With many outstanding entries, judging was difficult (again). Congratulations on a second-place win! And thank you for supporting the contest. Best wishes, Carolyn

Well written verse, Joyce.. As you, my faith is strong for he came down and became man to die for our sins a new beginning for all. Like a parent that would do anything to protect us. Ignore the comments of the ignorant and the nonbelievers. Hugs Eve ~`*
