My Beloved Home Town

Do you remember the little soda shop, Where we'd buy one soda and ask for two straws? We'd sip very slowly, not wanting to stop, Until the glass emptied and we had to pause. So young and so carefree and in love, we'd hop From one store to the next and laugh just because. We loved our home town, where we wanted to stay, Until we grew up and life got in the way.

The innocence of this lovely way of life you describe here brought tears to my eyes Joyce. I feel nostalgic for those wonderful days before technology took over and now everyone is glued to their cell phone even when they are with friends. Crazy! Congratulations on your wonderful poem's win! : ) xxoo

Joyce, I love the way you took us back and recreated the "soda shop" scene in your home town. You created a carefree mood that could only be interrupted by maturing to adulthood. It was very difficult for me to judge this contest because contestants wrote so many incredibly beautiful poems. It's my hope that all of them will regard their entries as wonderful "stand-alone" poems. Congratulations on your win! Best wishes, Carolyn
