Set Aside Poems

Throne of one

I walk in a world painted with charm,
where laughter drifts like sunlight,
where hands are gentle and hearts are soft.
Yet I stumble on the broken echoes,
the half smiles and misfired warmth
the ones the world seems to have set aside.

I have watched the golden pass me by,
their steps in sync with the universe,
while I gather the fragments left behind,
learning that solitude is not punishment
but a quiet, fierce companion.

Alone, I sharpen my edges,
I claim my own rhythm,
I dance in rooms built from my own light.
I do not wait for the lost or the lovely,
for I am enough
without the handsome, without the kind.

In this crowd of misfits,
I have found a throne of one,
and it suits me
better than any hand could.

Son, Stay Home for Christmas

Son, please stay home for Christmas day,
You are often out in trouble and out at play;
Let's celebrate with our kith and kin
Sharing some cookies and hot tea
Sitting by the fire or near the tree;
Stay home for Christmas, son
Set aside your plans of running away
Stick around with us, stick with me.

Whispers of Forever

Trapped between the lines of love's sweet plight,
The weddings that never came to be,
The chances seized, yet lost in fading light,
A whispered dream, you set my spirit free.

For pieces set aside, both shattered and untouched,
A heart laid bare, vulnerable and raw,
I gaze at you, and suddenly so much,
The wordings of my heart begin to thaw.

You make me come alive, even when I'm away,
A constant presence, a guiding star above,
So I decided to embrace my truest way,
And in your love, discover perfect love.

In science, it's always two, a simple sum,
But in the art of love, our worlds entwine,
A masterpiece of passion has begun,
And you, more beautiful than any goddess, are mine.

Premium MemberDays of Your

Lots of poems did I write
Most were written late at night
For what I'd always strive to do
Was have one waiting there for you
When you arose, the first bouquet
Of fragrant words to start your day
I used to tell you things that way
Since to your face I could not say

But now it seems sometimes I can
I know not how, nor why, nor when
I started feeling comfortable
Enough to tell you almost all
Not everything though, deep inside
I hold some back, they're set aside
Until such time as may permiss
Commencement starting with a kiss

What Your Voice Promised

You folded a shirt until the seam sealed a sentence.
Each crease was a stamp pressed shut — fold, press, set aside.
You stacked them: unmailed pages, tidy and unread.

In the kitchen you didn’t ask for sugar; your finger traced
our small circle for second helpings —
a gesture still carrying its own grammar.

Silence opened a bureau in the hall: drawers labeled
with answers I had kept for you — thin slips of paper
I never dared to send.

I remembered your hum before breakfast:
the soft tuck of paper into an envelope,
a sound that promised delivery.

Last night, on an envelope, you wrote:

I am learning to listen
to what silence keeps.

This morning you spoke one word: Here.
It lay on the table like a stamp no one noticed until now —
already stuck, already sent.
A shirt slipped from the stack into my lap;
I held it, not knowing if I’d been given a gift
or a reminder.

Premium MemberTwo Ways to Live

There’s living a life, with the wind in your face..
Chasing the sun in a faraway place.
Hearts beating wild on a mountain’s high peak..
Finding the magic that most never seek.

And then there are those in the grip of the grind..
With dreams set aside and the clockwork in mind.
Paying off walls they barely call home..
Counting the days ‘til they’re free to roam.

They rise with the dawn, repeat and repeat..
Trading their time just to make ends meet.
A mortgage, a job, and a neatly cut lawn..
While the colours of youth quietly dawn.

Yet some break away, take a breath, take a chance..
They follow the music, they live in the dance.
They barter their comfort for stories to tell..
And live with the risk of not doing so well.

But who truly wins? Who’s better or right?
The one chasing wonder, or working through night?
Maybe the truth lies in moments we give..
In finding our own way of learning to live.

So whether you wander or walk the set track..
Make sure it’s your dream that’s carried on back.
For life isn’t measured by paychecks or fear..
But by who you became on your journey here.

Seven Eight Nine

You will fall but you can choose to stand back up again
Often missing His Call even more now than then
Even right in front of His Face like you have not a care
In so knowing of such disgrace yet acting as if unaware

You know of His Name yet you take it so light
So often taking your shame and placing it out of sight
Continuing to set aside everything you know to be true
And all of it for your own pride, as if nobody knew

But as I said you will fall, but you need to learn to stand
Why would you risk it all for anything else in this land
Be it drugs, sex, or rock ‘n’ roll
Or any other vice out there
When it comes to your soul, you better be aware

The Lord always forgives, but you have to change your path
For when one recklessly lives soon we will feel God‘s wrath
It doesn’t need to be this way He gave us all a way out
So I’ll just simply pray that He ends this present bout

Ephesians 6:13-14
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand

One Real Encounter And You'll Never Forget

Smile world things will be okay.
God is everywhere, everyday.
Set aside for Him a special time.
To focus on Him only with your mind.
Imagine Him there within your room.
Awareness of his presence should begin soon.
Raise your arms upward like a little child.
Wanting Daddy to hold you for a while.
When His presence moves close you'll know.
For me rivers of tears begin to flow.
An uncontrollable, yet cleansing cry.
There's an awareness of Him I can't deny.
A feeling that things will be just fine.
The physical room is no longer in my mind.
Just a sense of complete and total bliss!
There is no high compared to this.
Then sadly, He simply pulls away.
All I want is with Him to stay.
Once one experiences an encounter like that.
Only a fool would not come back.
The right words to describe it are hard to find.
I just know it makes me hungrier for Him every time.

Hoatzin

"The Hoatzin is an extremely ancient and isolated type, and it has very properly been set aside in a separate Order by itself" - Quote by William Beebe.

Premium MemberOld Paint in Old Tin Can

I pried with a screw-driver driven into a lid
sealed with age, and rust, to crack open a
callous retribution, set aside, tombed over.
I was curious to learn how much remained
and in what condition. Up came the lid with
a gurgle, fizz, hiss, expelled with age smell.
The paint on top, had dried, to a skin, a curd,
a viscous scum of strange foreign color that
did not auger well for its pending redemption.
I poked through the thin skin, scooping it out,
to reveal the paint separated into its primary
colors. Once, thrice stirred, it slowly rejigged
into its original color and form, ready to adorn
marks on the wall, scraped and sanded ready
for a fix, now all's done dusted, and forgiven.

Dreaming

Through haunting steps was I lured here
By a melody faint but clear
To this glen where fancy drifted
By the rays my sight was gifted
Peering through a portal twixt
Fae and mortal realm are mixed
With heavy eyelids did I trace
Beyond a doorway fairy laced
A land that to a sleeper seeming
Would only appear to one who's dreaming
So with a nodding head did I
Accept an invitation devised
To set aside these earthly ways
And wonts belonging to the day
For a realm where sprites aplenty
Weave a spell soaked litany
They prance and dance for my surprise
To these misty mortal eyes
And caper on until a time
For fairy bells to warning chime
The dawning of lights soon arrival
To Herald the end of dreams survival
Now all the fae folk gathered hence
Did ask a further moment whence
To linger this side of the gate
And escape their morning fate
They beckon to this dreamers eyes
And plead that for one moment more
Deny the truth which soundless lies
Beyond the bounds of dreamings door

ALL THAT I HATE

As I walk each day through fire,
                   The burning bridges in my wake;
                         I set aside the loneliness,
And take what I can take...

                    There's no more easy answers,
                     Many questions burn the page;
The despair of all my broken,
Leaves me wandering through this maze...

Another day, my mind it aches.
My soul now draped By the bitterest of cold,
                         The memories stay frozen;
With all my life's, many mistakes...

As I walk each day through fire,
                             The more bridges I take;
, As now I stay consumed,
By the loneliness that now gives me,
                                     All that I hate...
