Hard Times

When hard times come they sit a spell,
Like kin folk come to stay
A-packin' troubles, pets an' kids
That always get ‘n your way.
It's drought an' flood, an' flood an' drought,
There ain't much in-between.
You work like hell to make ’em good,
But still they’re sorta lean.

The ranch went under late last year,
The drought got mighty tough.
The boss held-out a long, long time,
But finally said, "enough!"
So here I am dispatchin’ cops
An’ watchin’ felons sleep,
In Junction, at the county jail,
A job I’ll prob’ly keep.

The wife, she works at Leisure Lodge,
Where older people stay,
A-makin’ beds an’ moppin’ floors
To earn some ‘extra’ pay.
Though “extra pay‘s” the term I used,
It goes to payin’ rent,
An’ after all the bills are paid,
We wonder where it went.

We hocked my saddle, guns an' chaps,
An' then our weddin' rings;
Then when we couldn't pay the loan,
They sold the 'dad-blamed' things.
We felt real bad a day or two
But then we let it go,
Cause it got Christmas for the kids
When money got real slow.

When hard times come they sit a spell,
Don't matter who you are;
They'll cost ya things you've set aside,
An' clean your cookie jar.
You'll loose some sleep an' worry some,
Won't pay to moan an' groan;
But hang on to your happiness,
They'll finally leave ya 'lone.

Premium Member Tears In Their Eye's

The desired Anti-Christ will have disciples
followers who carry guns and rifles

It's not known if they believe the lies
though evidence is before their ears and eye's

No matter who says it's not right
they want their way or else they'll fight

Their minions cower beneath in fright
counting votes beneath the light

Fearing not the Lord above
But paying homage to what they love

Truth and honor cannot exist
as long as their will we must resist

sence when is lyng an art
sence when did judges set not apart

sence when are laws set aside
or our Oath no longer a matter of pride

When the call is made to call a spade a spade
Dispight concerns of parties praise

And true Justice we find delayed
By lame dicisions a court has made

History eventually show hero's and villians
Heaven judges the wills of those forgiven

They seldom repent and reguard "not now"
They will not relent or disavow

They follow their lord with supplies of lies
Even though Providence and truth are near by

Don't they know it's just a matter of time
And Hell will not wipe one tear from their eye's

Premium Member A Talk With Him

Outside, a table awaits idle: I join as though it was my companion
Pondering about life as if it were water appeasable to the deepest canyon
Trees and scattered leaves waving alongside the lake facing the north; sighing
Opportunity after opportunity, oh how Ungrateful I am as I whisper to him crying

" A work in progress I am Lord, assist as I sprinkle the ground below with my tears
Lead me and guide me for I shall follow you through out my years
Let your word be used as a sword to fight against my enemy peers
Unseal your lips Father for your words of wisdom are therapeutic to my ears"

A canvas set aside of unfading colors; a mirror painting of the Lord above
My knees gently caress the pavement thanking him for his everlasting love
Caterpillars gather around to celebrate and form to butterflies within my chest
Thanking the Lord once again, for I know with Faith he will conquer the rest

Premium Member Feeling Blue and Knotted Up

in the fervour of my sweat
sheets drenched
i wake to the toxic bellow of my own voice
in the torment of my own thoughts

in the complexity of my simple life
i lay eyes swollen wide open
in the measure of hours set aside for sleep

overwhelmed by recent events
i struggle with the haunting of their potential outcome
in the exaggeration of my emotional outpour i bleed tears

dry to the air of the night
i shrivel like a plum under light

so this is what it is like
to be a prey to grief
an abhorrent internal pain
i forget its feel when it is gone
i remember its feed when it is here

bent
out of sorts
barely able to walk
i return to the inferno of my now

quiet

i keep my affliction private and unassuming

Premium Member My Red Red Roses POTD

Red, red roses, you flowers of immortal love
You first blossomed in God’s Garden for Eve
In my garden too, you bloom so bright
I tend you with love and care day and night
You gladden me all through the day
That my verse on roses before all, gleefully I lay

Amid stinging thorns and the cover of leafy green
Your frilled beauty is sometimes veiled unseen
But as the wind croons all day in your ear
Your sweet fragrance spreads in the husky air
Thus, we are drawn to your hidden presence
And come to know of your lovely existence
You appear most beautiful when budding new
Lovely you are when your petals glisten, washed in dew

My Garden serves as a therapy in stress and strain
It is there, I forget and forego all my pain
When the first rays of light fall on the flowers
And the leaves are beaded with dew drops in bowers
I get out to work in nature’s household
And it brings me returns and rewards manifold
As I pull out every unwanted weed
A bit of my grief, I am learning to set aside
Sure, the smiling flowers give me lots of cheer
And my health improves, as I inhale morn’s fresh air

Ten is the number to begin
Early in the garden
Gathering herbs, foxglove and more
On her face casual grin

Nine are the ingredients here
Placed in beef stew to simmer
It will be tender, succulent
For his eye will grow dimmer

Eight minutes sear the stew beef
Add some herbs like lemon thyme
Pour in beef broth to simmer down
Let it stew half a day's time

Seven is the count to cook some rice
A soft bed to nestle
Colors a great contrast appeal
Beauty, aroma will settle

Six add carrots, red and green peppers
The slow simmer, leaves crunch
Perfect in shape, color and taste
He will munch, munch, and munch

Five memories of his abuse
Threats, terror, and betrayal
Guns pointed to head even loaded
To public opposite portrayal

Four ladles of stew removed
Add some oleander
To stew on range, and let simmer
Stir the pot, leaves meander

Three flowers from pretty foxglove
Maybe this stew he'll love
Hear his truck come down the drive
Everything's quiet even dove

Two ladles served upon white rice
Her's prepared set aside
Upon a plate over white rice
Stew served that she contrived

One ambulance pulls quietly away
Rushing to hospital
Entirely too late to save the day
A crime? Really Committal?

I watch TV crime stories..LOL

 For a time,
I want to shed my earthly existence
Like the sloughed skin of a snake
To rise high and still higher like a bird
To sail beyond sunset, to fly far, far away
To soar into the seamless skies
To levitate in ether, to feel weightless
To float amid twinkling stars
To collide against constellations
To tour round on a magic carpet
And dive into the oceanic depths of space

There I would build a palace
Amid the clouds to dream in peace
With none to trouble or torment

No laws of gravity should pull me down
Let me rest awhile in that magic kingdom
Not for ever, but for a little while
To look down from that cosmic arena
And pity upon the poor earthlings
Who never realize how insignificant they are
Stuck in a blue luminous speck
Amid the vast enveloping cosmic dark
And keep sucking their habitation dry!

With all ignorance and misconceptions shed
With pearls of new knowledge garnered
With petty strife set aside, in greater humility
Finally to descend down as a better being!

She Is Healed

She was once young and immature
Delicate to the touch, fragile to the core
Always trying her best, yet being bullied

And despite all the ugly hurtful things were thrown at her, she was secretly hiding all the pain behind her smile
whilst silently crying in the dark where no one can ever spy on her.

She was a broken soul living in pretense

Fast forward to the present
She woke up a spontaneously changed person.

She’s grown and matured into a strong and fierce spirited woman-
She’s learned to set aside the pains from the past
She stopped allowing bullies and criticisms to affect her mentally and emotionally
She is cheerfully unconcerned about who do you think she is
And she is especially without a care of pointless drama

She is healed, she’s proud
She’s got the wheel and in control of her own happiness
She is now daring and passionately enjoying the blessings of the present

Premium Member The Potter and the Clay

The clay goes round and round, on the Potters wheel
With gentle touches, and pressures he creates what he feels
One is a bowl for eating soup, another a cup for drinking tea
Each one is crafted uniquely special, showing his individuality.

Handled with care by the Potter, while still in a fragile state
The Potter continues to mold, until it reaches a hardened shape.
And then the formed handiwork, is set aside alone to dehumidify
Slowly one by one he is joined in like company, no need to cry.

And then to the kiln to be purified, tested in superheated fire
When they're out they are all polished, to a beauty that inspires
When the Potter's done with the clay, it becomes a useful vessel
We are like clay in God's hands, with our imperfections we wrestle.

Our weaknesses, our wrong desires, at times may overwhelm us
Our lack of faith, and hardened hearts, could scheme and impel us
To be used for ugly purposes, which were not intentionally made
We ruin our fragile selves, putting the haughty ego on display.

We know the Potter does not change his immutable eternal purpose
It is us, who must submit, to doing God's will, because it's worth it.

Let him mold you for an honourable purpose!

Premium Member How To Give a Cat a Pill

1) Pick up the cat and cradle it in the crook of your arm as if holding a baby. Position forefinger and thumb on either side of the cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As the cat opens it's mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2) Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in arm and repeat process.

3) Retrieve cat from bedroom and throw away soggy pill.

4) Take new pill from package and cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut and count to 10 .

5) Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe.

6) Kneel on floor with cat firmly wedged between knees. Hold front and rear paws ignoring low growls emitted by cat. Get partner to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

7) Retrieve cat from curtain rail and take another pill from the package. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set aside for gluing later.

8) Wrap cat in a towel and get partner to lie on top of cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in the end of a drinking straw, force cat's mouth open with pencil and blow down the straw.

9) Check label to see if pill is harmful to humans and drink a pint of beer to take the taste away. Apply band aide to partner's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10) Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed and get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door firmly on neck. Force mouth open with dessert spoon and flick pill down throat with elastic band.

11) Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges.
Drink beer, fetch bottle of Scotch, pour a shot and drink. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect, then toss back another shot.
Throw away remnant of T-shirt and put on a new one.

12) Take cat to vet and get him to give cat the pill.

Premium Member Meat

Anchored by its feet hangs the carcass
Butcher removes brisket and strings it
Chuck steak diced for stews and pies
Dark well matured silverside rests
Entrails give the dogs a royal feast
Flank minced for spaghetti bolognese
Gullet chopped into stock pot simmers
Hanging meat swings as the butcher works
Icy still from the blast chiller
Juicy steaks thickly cut are parcelled up
Kebabs skewered, placed on display
Loin of beef neatly lined up
Minced steak patties for burgers
Neck used in both stock pot and stew
Offal set aside for pate and pies
Perfectly roasted beef ready to carve
Quick flash fry of rib eye seals in juices
Rump not too trimmed dribbles on grill
Sirloin anointed by a king sizzling
Tongue gently braised in gravy or stock
Utensils casting shadows on the wall
Venison from red deer's makes tasty things
Wing rib rubbed with hot spices waits
Xhosa cattle graze in pastures green
Yellowed meats set aside for soup
Zibeline hides scrapped and cured, nailed up

Premium Member The Race

It’s not about the winning or losing
But how the race is run
To be in the Winners Circle
To bask in limelight’s fun

It’s not about the winning or losing
But how the race is run
The preparation starts well before
The race is even begun

It’s not about the winning or losing
But how one runs the race
In a Universe full of Abundance
One must take their place

It’s not about the winning or losing
But how the game is played
It’s always great in the winner’s circle
Especially when one meets the grade

Life is but a transitional race
In which we take our place
It’s a Universe full of abundance
To foul would be bad taste

Grievances set aside
In Harmony enjoy the treat
A Universe full of Abundance
The World is at your feet

Solitary you battle through the race
On a journey all alone
Let’s join you then and run in fun
That’s how this race is run

Footnote:
The music is from the movie 'Chariots of Fire', a true story of two young dedicated British contenders with different religious denominations who were fierce competitors in the 1924 Paris Olympics.

Music by - 2CELLOS, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser in their new album playing the Title from 'Chariots of Fire' by Vangelis with London Symphony Orchestra.

My Black

My black bleeds the same color red
My black breaths the same air
My black causes death instead
Of life.
My black should live loud and free
My black is me.
My black loves you
My black loves are true.
My black served the same country
Pride.
My black is set aside
Like last nights trash
Yet I ask, does your color
Mean right, and my black
Mean wrong?
What a sad black song.

A Tribute To Andrea Dietrich

she’s a faithful friend
a mentor, a confidant
a trusted teacher
of poetry forms
loyal, loving me for me
with no conditions...

on one occasion
she set aside precious time
to study ALL of my work
yes, from first to last
offering kind opinions
on what she thought were my best...

she loathes the lazy
practice of copy/pasting
bland, boring comments
or: ‘Nice work! Love it! Congrats!’
(short but not so very sweet)
enough already!

she’s funny and fun
honorable and honest
sometimes brutally...
(she knows I need it)
confidence sans cockiness
now THAT’S a lady...
