Notes About The Poem

Marry for love

Set aside thy lists,
calm busy thoughts
censure the process of unease

Forsake the thousand cares
and working of worries
that kill the heart

In the market of men
choose not a less perfect love
whom grace briefly affects

Let him not marry for an
alliance with authority
the warrant of wealth
or polluted lust

Let her not marry out of
a fear of long bachelorship
wicked spirit or tender virginity

for these are worthless bargains

Marriage cannot bind
the workings of thy thought
or the passion of the nuptial bed

Marry for love, breathe for love
that years of impossibly guiltless
comfort may be thy privilege
.

Penultimate stanza odd within context of an otherwise superlative piece. Accidentally thoughtful or intentionally crafted?? You’re what, 8 years away from finding out? Will he love me for my money or my pixie glances? What happens when I cut my hair?

Penultimate... "Marriage cannot bind.." That one? It means 'don't make a deal you can't live with.'

All that is rightful and true as I recollect. There is also a covenant born from joint life experience and surmounting of challenges that grows as ardor fades. It even persists beyond the dissolution of marriage, regardless of the different subsequent journeys. At least that’s the way it is with Nancy (my ex) and I.

yeah, I doubt you could forget about being married to someone - for better or for worse. This was just where I took a shot at playing with a more formal style. =]
