Hot Air

Politicians are paid as a last resort
to attend the summit accomplishing nought
but flap their lips expose their gums
feed their face and fill their tums
all the hot air they expend
I don't exaggerate
discussing climate change in the end
will only exacerbate
the ongoing problem long-since forming
a future foreboding of global warming
for every page and pamphlet printed
put in the post or stuck on walls
about ecology and saving the woods
it seems to me yet another tree in the forest falls
and I believe for every drop of acid rain
a flower dies
somewhere under the darkest skies
a new-born baby cries

Burn, Baby, Burn.
I was born in flames
In the screams
In the tears of despair
On grief that never healed
On bodies left broken
On shattered glass and empty hands
Just rage
And night
Burning through their eyes
I was born in fire
Burning with city fever
On July 14th
A night when time froze
Tweny-five hours.
No light
No mercy
Just blackout
A hole with no fireworks
A silence too loud
Dark night
Dark hearts
Cardiac sirens
No trace of kindness
The heroes hid
And “Son of Sam”
Yes, “Son of Sam”
The lover-slayer
Wrote love letters dipped in venom
His poetry
A slow, cruel burn
Each word
A loaded match
Each line
A whispered threat
But even then
Even there,
Something still breathed
I was born in flames
Between a siren’s scream
And a DJ’s scratch
Patching the universe
With stolen vinyl
And holy defiance
I was born in flames...

Life has given all I sought,
just not as I dreamed.
If I wished for a tree, I would
surely get a twig with leaves.

When three, baby doll love began -
        life did not match my vision.
                Challenges were not in my dream,
                         but my child's life was strained.
One favorite dream was of love -
        not the remorse from divorce.   
                Once failures had their way,
                        love did come bearing joy.
Since a teen, I dreamed of
        one true, lifelong friend.
                It’s too late for dream’s intention,
                      all friendships met an end.
I have one staid mate - my pen.
        Lifelong I dreamt it would cash spawn
               but life was day office dizzy 
                      then night, mom and wife busy. 

I had my share of dying dreams
         stripping me to a raw mind.
            Dead dreams do leave bits behind,
                            I have felt their seeds peek thru
                                           to aid all new dreams conceive.

One Year of You, Melissa

One year ago, the stars began,  
And heaven said, "She is mine."  
A small spark, a breath so new,  
The world was brighter all for you.

Your giggles flower like morning sun,  
Your eyes, two stars that brightly shine.  
Each step you take, each sound you make,  
Turns average days awake.

You've taught us love in its pure form,
In warm fingers and sleepy sighs.
One smile, a coo so soft,
The world seems new with you.

We have witnessed you grow, in wonder, in awe,
Each step taken in love and law.
From lullabies to weeping whines,
You've filled our hearts, you've filled our skies.

Here's to you, our birthday star,
Our miracle, just as you are.
May grace and happiness be with you,
With oceans broad dreams to chase.

A single candle today, but, oh, the flame
It shines hope, it whispers your name.
Happy birthday, little dove,
You are our world, our limitless love.

Pain in revolutions

Yesterday, today, tomorrow.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 O' clock,
24 hours,
365 days,
cocoon to butterfly,
7 days.
Over and over and over.
Again.
When you turn 5, you become a kid.
No more sippy cups or nap time. 
When you turn 13, you become a teen.
No more cartoons and dolls.
Adults say, "You're not a kid anymore, start acting like it".
When you turn 18, you become an adult. 
Suddenly, nap times become apartment hunting and sippy cups become shots that you're still not allowed to drink. 
But just yesterday, you were walking to the bus stop in a backpack full of new supplies, and now you're having ramen on the floor, barely getting by.
No one is asking what you want to be anymore, instead they are asking when you're getting married and having kids, but you're still a kid yourself.
You're cosplayng someone all grown up, but you cry yourself to sleep because you just want to go home. 
20 years later,
you have kids of your own.
they are turning 5, then 13, then 18,
and you're wondering where the time has gone.

but you sure can’t say she is dumb.

Her man is a wealthy gambler.
He gets a thrill watching ”Tumblin’ Dice.”
"You Can’t Always Get What You Want,"
but his Angie baby gets everything nice.

"Wild Horses” can’t keep that man of hers
from giving her the most expensive things.
He brings her flowers and chocolates
and buys her big, fancy, high-priced rings.

He loves his convertible that’s hot red, but
if she said to "Paint It Black", he’d do it anyway.
Yesterday I heard her casually tell him,
“Honey, don’t forget. I need my new 'Ruby Tuesday'.”

A Miracle in Your Smile

In the quiet hush of a hopeful dawn,
You arrived with whispers of wonder,
A tiny heartbeat, a promise reborn
My second child, my awe and thunder.

You showed me how dreams take flight
In the cradle of your gentle sighs.
A second chance at a love so bright,
A miracle wrapped in lullabies.

Tiny fingers, perfect and small,
Your first laugh echoed, a sacred song.
You taught me that faith can heal it all,
That miracles dwell where hearts belong.

Each breath you take, a testament true,
A precious gift I never knew
Could shine so brightly in one so new
A light of hope that guides me through.

So here you are, my gentle spark,
Proof that prayers are never in vain.
My second born, you lit the dark
A miracle’s touch, forever mine to gain.

My first born

My firstborn son, my heart’s new dawn,
Your tiny cry, the light that shone
In that first breath, I learned to be
The mom I’d always longed to see.

Your love, so pure, so bright and clear,
Awoke a strength I never feared.
You took my world and turned it round,
In every smile, a home I found.

You made me whole, you made me more,
Unlocked the soul I’d kept in store.
You taught me patience, grace, and glee,
A better me, you helped me see.

The way your laughter fills the air,
The way you look, your tender stare
Each day you bloom, my love has grown,
I’m grateful for the seeds you’ve sown.

Forever changed, forever true,
My heart beats now because of you.
My firstborn son, my shining sun,
You made me mom, my precious one.

For My Darling Sister, My Punky
I gave Him all thanks when she was born,   					             
my sweet event, my newborn, babe sis.   							                        
All that she did, did my heart adorn.                        				
Loving her when seven was valued bliss.                      			
I brought Mom warm wash cloths each change time,       			
and told her when new bottles were prime.  				          
Joy was snuggling her in bed or a chair.
My Elizabeth Jane's skin was fair,                                 
with a cute button nose and eyes sky blue.                  
Five ten's have passed and my sis' love stays true.

All alone in my silent confessions 
  long I have dwelt on secret battles fought,
and poison arrows of those obsessions 
  alas might pierce my last refuge methought.
But having crossed my Rubicon I wait
  in new beginnings, in love’s boons to be
where new battles will rage and punctuate
  the fullness of time in his century.
To that cause I am heart and soul aware
  and exceptional favour bears me more,
that in my time I’ll have a son and heir
  who fills in me what was missing before.
Soon I will hail on a day still to dawn
to me a millennia child is born.

Aaro stands still and sees
a snake among green leaves.
What she thinks, she becomes,
her eyes wide as new moons.

The painted snake moves without moving,
its path already chosen.
"I can make things real too,"
whispers Aaro to herself.

Each day she plants a thought
like a seed in dark soil.
Each night she waters it
with dreams that never sleep.

The snake found its way
through a forest of gold.
Aaro finds her way
by believing what can be.

"See how the artist made
this world appear from nothing?
I can do that too,"
she says with growing power.

Her hands now hold the brush
of her own making.
What she names, takes shape.
What she loves, grows strong.

The snake and leaves teach Aaro :
we become what we imagine.
Our thoughts create the path
where once there was just paper.

Today she draws her future
with colours bold and bright.
Tomorrow she will walk
into the picture she has made.
