Suggestion for New Type of Poem - Song Lyrics - John Anderson's Blog

I was born under the star sign 'Pisces' and as the saying goes "You can't get over that". I have life-long interests in water, fish, the sea, sailing and everything wet and aquatic. I have a scientific background in the environment and fisheries. I have written extensively on many topics. I have created and manage a gaggle of websites. I have now retired and live in the 'Shark Shack' by the sea near Jervis Bay, on the South Eastern coast of Australia. I sail, fish, walk, dive and swim as much as I can with the motto: 'Diving for Pearls'. My main focus is on didactic poems. I love the poems of Dylan Thomas and my favorite movie is 'Under Milk Wood' (a radio play, made into a film). I also like Les Murray. My website is Poetry Community http://www.poetrycommunity.com. Suggestion for New Type of Poem - Song Lyrics

Not sure if this has been considered before. I suggest a new poem type called 'Song lyrics '. It opens up the idea that poets could write and perform their song themselves and include the recording using the 'Listen to Poem' tool. There are also a variety of 'text to song' tools people can use as well. People could also write lyrics and not perform them. This could open up a whole new genre for soupers. It adds to the performance poetry idea as well. Cheers!

It's a great idea, but I think most people here do not even know how to recite and post, let alone do music. I had to have help from my younger students just to post up the few I have recited! Also, like tommy says, some folks are already posting lyrics and we can hear their songs through links to youtube also.

I think it would be a great idea even for lyrics that are not performed. Song lyrics are a special form. There are some wonderful text to song tools and text to voice reciting tools that you can use that do a great job bringing your poems to life as a performance. Check my latest Gist.
