Hi!

My name is Ariana Pataki, and I'm 15 years old. I'm from Spain, from a beautiful city called Zaragoza. English is not my first language. I apologize for any mistakes my grammar may have. My parents are from Hungary and Romania, so I speak five languages: Spanish, English, French, Hungarian and Romanian. I'm currently learning Italian and Portuguese.

I love languages, since I want to work as a translator, travelling round the world and helping people understand each other.

I define myself as someone very positive, kind and sociable. I always think about others, and I try to help them out. I love being with my friends, reading novels, writing my own novels, obviously poetry and learning new stuff.

Usually, people say I'm too young to write poetry. I have been told this for years.

I started writing my own short stories at the age of ten. Those small histories were not a big deal, but led me to start to write novels at the age of 12. I started my first book in 2021, and I finished it in 2023. Right now, my goal is finishing my third thriller novel, which I called "Pulse of panic". Finally, I recently finished another short novel, which is called "Wild Heart"

My parents are not big supporters of my work. They believe my novels and poems are just a way of wasting my time.I've been struggling with many stuff and writing has always helped me out. I want to have an optimistic view, and say that everything will get better.

In 2023, at school, I began to write small verses on my notebooks, words that could rhyme and could express how I felt. Slowly, everything made sense, and I made my very first poem: Overthink. After that one, everything flowed good. I began to write more and more, when I felt happy or stressed. Poetry is my way of scaping reality.

I found Poetry Soup, and started posting my poems. Lots of wonderful people started reading my poems, commenting on them and saying such beautiful things, I had to keep going! They all inspired me, and encouraged me. I'lll cherish each of them in my heart. You all are the best!! I never thought my words could be appreciated the way they do. I'm really grateful.

I'm just a teenage girl, with so many dreams and hopes. I'll keep trying my best, trying to make good poems. I'll keep learning day by day.

Thanks for reading such a long biography. Honestly, thanks for everyone who reads my poems and spend some of their time reading this biography. I'm so happy to be a part of Poetry Soup's community.

Have a great day, and take care. Be safe!

Ariana :-)

"Why do you waste your time writing poetry?"

Blog Posted:11/16/2023 10:31:00 AM

(I have never written a blog, but hey, let's try this.)

The other day, my friend looked at me and asked, "Why do you waste your time writing poetry? What's the point?" It caught me off guard, and for a moment, I hesitated. But then I realized, maybe they just haven't felt the magic that spills from the ink on paper, the way words can dance emotions into something beautiful.

You see, writing poetry isn't just about putting words together; it's about unraveling the tangle of thoughts in my mind. It's my way of navigating through the maze of emotions that sometimes seems too complicated for ordinary conversation. When life feels like a storm, and I can't find shelter, poetry becomes my refuge.

Sure, it might seem like I'm escaping reality, but in truth, I'm diving deeper into it. Poetry lets me explore the vast oceans of my feelings, swim in the currents of my thoughts, and emerge with pearls of understanding. It's like having a secret conversation with my soul, a dialogue that spills onto paper in verses and rhymes.

Sometimes, the world can be overwhelming. There are days when it feels like I'm carrying the weight of the universe on my shoulders. That's when poetry becomes my release valve. I pour my heart onto the page, and suddenly, the burden feels a little lighter. It's a positive way of venting, a cathartic experience that transforms pain into art.

And let's not forget the beauty of it all. Poetry allows me to capture the fleeting moments of joy, the whispers of the wind, and the colors of a sunset. It's a celebration of life in all its shades, a reminder that even in the darkest night, there's a moonbeam waiting to be noticed.

So, the next time someone questions why I write poetry, I'll tell them it's my way of embracing the profound, of finding meaning in the mundane. It's a journey within, an exploration of the universe that resides in my heart and mind. And maybe, just maybe, they'll understand that sometimes, the most meaningful things in life are the ones we can't see but feel with every beat of our poetic hearts.

You are so fortunate to have discovered this love of poetry at such a young age. Please never become disillusioned with it. Sometimes we leaves gems for other to discover and quite often they aren’t discovered for a long time. The secret is to write for yourself alone and if others can reap the benefits- so much the better. I loved reading your beautifully worded blog and sweet optimism. SuZ

Hi Suzanne! I really think the same. I'll keep writing and improving. Thanks for such kind comment.

Ariana, there are multiple reasons to write (anything for that matter). At the least, it's a diary of your thoughts, and if it's poems, it's a artful diary. Your friend will pass away some day and leave nothing, while you will live on in your writings for generations to enjoy. Like I wrote at the end of my poem "Are Poets Blessed", "I'd like to think that someday in a loving home a question's asked, 'Whatcha doin' Josh, 'I'm reading great grandpa's poems".

I've read quite a few of yours. Like the rest of us you have much to learn but the bottom line is this: You're good. I suspect you'll be writing for many years to come

You've actually been reading my poems from the beginning, and I really appreciate your words. I'm not that good yet, but I'll improve, and I'll keep learning!

You've expressed your feelings so well in this blog. It's good that you are able to fall into another world of art when bothered, or just enjoying the view and writing what you see, like Picasso, van Gogh, and so many others. So enjoyed reading your blog.

Hello, I enjoyed reading your Blog here on Soup. I think some of my quotes from my "Quote Page" here on Soup will best say how I feel. I hope you will enjoy reading them. Yes, life/writing is a journey. Have a wonderful day writing away..............."A writer writes, because they love to write."~~"The pen is the tongue for many writers."~~"God gives the poet their words to write."~~"My hand is the pen to write words. My mouth is the pen to speak words. A writer must write. So write on."~~"Here's to poems and to their writers. We make the world go round and round."

Sadly, poetry in today's world is one of the least appreciated of art forms. However, we are lucky to have web sites like this one to enjoy each other's talents. Lovely blog.
