POLICE, PRISON BREAKS, DEAD CHUPACABRAS & A ZEBRA IN TX!: ONE WILD RIDE!

Blog Posted:12/6/2009 11:28:00 PM
<P>TWO BLONDS IN TX: Okay, this is ALL true: Last wkend, my daughter called frantically needing to be rescued from a bad situation in the absolute southwestern edge of TX, 5 miles from the US/Mexico border. <EM>We live in northeast TX</EM>. My head was killing me &amp; my husband wasn't feeling too hot either. Our only decent (IE:safe) car is a two-seater. We had to take his mom's car, the FisherPrice PT Cruiser, which compared to our car--well, suffice it to say that it should have a giant wind-up key on the top. Now add TORRENTIAL rain and pitch darkness to the recipe. The FisherPrice car hydroplanes like crazy and it appeared that someone had coated the windshield wipers with Vaseline-they actually made it worse. I was hunched over the steering wheel like Mr. Magoo &amp; sick with anxiety. I drove thru Houston at about 30 mph and almost got killed because the bars had just let out. (We used to call this time of night "Oh-Drunk-thirty" in the ER.) The rain NEVER let up, The WHOLE trip. About 6 hrs into the trip, I was driving, trying not to hydroplane, and my husband said:<EM> "Do we have a flat?" </EM>Then, boom, boom, boom, that horrid noise of a blown tire-I steered off to the shoulder, it was <STRONG>pouring </STRONG>rain, <STRONG>pitch black</STRONG> and the flat was on the <STRONG>highway side</STRONG>. I called 911 to get a state trooper so we wouldn't get killed changing the flat. Then my phone died. The trooper showed up, my husband changed the tire, and the trouper told us where the nearest WalMart was and that we should just park by the automotive section &amp; get some rest until the mechanics showed up. We limped to the WalMart on the 'doughnut', reclined our seats, he fell asleep, in wet clothes, I might add,of course I couldn't sleep-I can hardly get comfortable in a <EM>bed</EM>, more less a freaking car. so I gave up and popped my seat back up, only to be suddenly BLINDED by lights-red, blue, white-<STRONG>three cop cars</STRONG>, cops with <STRONG>guns drawn</STRONG> surrounding us--I hopped out (stupid, huh?) to explain. Once they saw both of us they holstered their guns; apparently there had been a prison break-I guess our skin color ruled us out. Finally we got the tire changed &amp; got back on the road. We had lost about 4 hrs. I know I was tired, but I swear I saw what looked like a <STRONG>chupacabra</STRONG>'s body on the highway-yellowish fur with stripes...? Creepy. We finally made it &amp; picked up my daughter, her cat, &amp; all that could fit in the car &amp; headed back. We were driving back and I SWEAR I saw (and everyone else saw it too) a <EM>freaking</EM> <FONT size=4>ZEBRA </FONT>grazing with some horses. By this time the rain had stopped &amp; we finally made it home, 26 hrs on the road. Now I can say I have driven across TX. I don't think I will EVER recover! Hope you all get a good laugh! ***Danielle***</P>P.S. Neurosurgeon still awaiting arrival of new piece of equipment/feeling really bad-worse every day/don't think I will ever have the energy to make this into a poem-LOL/don't judge TX by this story-it's okay in certain areas, if you don't mind Chupacabras &amp; Big Foot (plural: Big Feet?) lurking in the dark. LAUGH, people. It's all I have left. ***Danielle***

This is such fantastic writing. Great humor here.My eyes are still watering. Even though I wasn't laughing out loud I sure had a contiuous belly wobble because of your humor. Glad you made it home in one piece. Love, laughter and joy, Margaret.

What an adventure you had, Danielle! Your sense of humor is awesome and undoubtedly a source of strength for you right now (though some folks might argue that the best medicine is a pint of whiskey -- lol). Prayers are flowing your way from many super Soupers. Please keep us posted on your progress. Much love and blessings, Carolyn

Wow....I'm exhausted just reading of this mis-adventure of a night you won't soon forget!! So glad to hear you won't be spending your holiday behind bars somewhere near the Texas border!!...But the best part of this story is that your daughter always knows she can depend on her mom to come to her aid when things go wrong! Stay safe, and get well, Danielle! ~ Love, Carrie

Sounds like this was certainly no 'Waltz Across Texas'...I have not checked but I assume we'll be seeing a nice poem about this? I didn't get a chance to read your last blog on your latest diagnosis...would you mind updating me? - Tim

Oh lordy! Danielle - You're certainly having a rough time of it! Though you did see a zebra - and perhaps a chupacabra!!! I hope the days ahead will be much less...exciting!
