Premium MemberOde to my dogs Buddy and Beau

Some other people’s dogs bite, snarl and snap like turtles on speed.
Our young puppy Beau dances, twirls, and bites his tail as if he’s on weed.
The other dog, Buddy, is a gentle giant, over a hundred pounds of love.
He was sent to us via a dumping, from angels who live well above.

It is no accident that God and Dog have the same three letters.
Beau, our deranged puppy is one of those romantic go-getters.
Being a retriever, he fetches everything – leaves, sticks, or a ball.
We are such dog people, we have four dog beds lying in our hall.

They might want to drink water, so we have six gray water bowls.
Buddy sits calmly while Beau digs enormous muddy burying holes.
They have personalities that keep us excited, they fill us with joy.
They want to eat our slippers and remotes, ignoring every dog toy.

Oh you lucky dog
aren't you glad you're not a frog
as easy as it may seem
you just lift a leg and let off some steam
instead of jumping on a log
like a frog
you just prance around the yard like a deer
playing with your toys with no fear

Ode to the Lady

To the lady who sees me as I am,
To the lady who sees me as a book,
Turning through my pages,
Straightening its dog ears,
Reading between the lines.

To the lady to whom I stand as a mirror,
Reflecting beyond my charm and calm,
Reaching for the hidden part of me,
Seeing the night that comes to my room,
Knowing that I add stars to its sky.

To the lady who said I do,
Despite my shades and fades,
Polishing my weathered surface,
Waiting for my shrivelled meadow to bloom,
Anticipating the sprout of my feeble boughs.

To the lady who knows my mother has a pride of place in me,
She has read the ode I wrote to my mother,
But still knows that she’s not barricaded from my heart’s door,
The fragrance that pervades my room,
She’s the purple flower in my garden.

ODE TO MALTESE

01/04/2014

I HAD A WHITE PUPPY
WHO WAS FLUFFY AND LIGHT.
MY SON NAMED HIM HOTWHEELS
BECAUSE IT FIT RIGHT.

I WOULD TAKE HIM OUTSIDE
TO RUN HIS ENERGY ABOUT.
HE WOULD ALWAYS STOP TO SMELL ROSES,
EVEN IF IT WAS RAINING OUT.

HOTWHEELS WILL ALWAYS
STAY CLOSE TO MY HEART;
FOR HE WAS SO SAD WHEN WE WERE APART.
EACH VISIT EXCITEMENT WAS EASY TO SEE,
ONCE AGAIN I APPEARED
FILLING HIM WITH GLEE.

AND EVERY NIGHT WE WOULD LAY
ALL CUDDLED IN BED.
HIS EYES WOULD MEET MINE
NOTHING NEEDED TO BE SAID.

SO WHEN I COME VISIT
EVERY NOW AND THEN;
JUST ONE NUZZLE SHOWS HIM
 I AM HIS FRIEND.

Premium MemberAn Ode to Hunting Dogs

The rolling, hollow, baying sounds cascading from the fen,
'cause there's a bobcat up a tree and the dogs are loose again.
The cat suddenly settles, and the hunting pack goes quiet.
A man whistles to call them, but these rowdy dogs won't buy it.

Like men in a private club, they quietly wait by the tree.
The cat observes his options, wondering how he will get free.
A twig snaps, there's movement. and the dogs return to full bay.
The cat jumps down into the marsh, and finally gets away.

Premium MemberOde To Sleek Greyhound

Sleek and smooth greyhound
A more refined pup we have never found
You are the one we look up to for sure
Your loveliness an example of brilliance so pure.’

You are an example that makes our species proud.
You do it subtly and serenely, not in any way loud.
Sleek and smooth greyhound, this is written for you.
You are my role model, so tried, treasured and true.

Premium MemberOh Meaty Peaks! a Pindaric Ode

Oh Meaty Peaks!
Oh meaty peaks adorn-ed on her lips,
Why do you cheeky mountains there exist?
You spoil the smooth mottled flip-flops,
Of canines' drooping moistened chops...
Oh spikes of flesh, you've piqued my interest!

Premium MemberOde To Lua

Ode to Lua, my dog.
Lua was lost, she was gone.
I wanted to be gone with her.
She was my last, my lost child, my full heart.
Confused I was, I had to get up.
No reason to wake up.
Loneliness crosses my mind.
My soul is empty. Questions and answers.
I don't have my dog.
We crossed together so many bridges, that nobody can understand.
We both climbed mountains,
but we went down.
Black and white, skin and bones.
Dark and light, both together, only one.
Eating a big meal at Christmas time we were.
Sleeping on the edge to nowhere, we warmed each other.
Discovering new cities, new beaches, new horizons. Just me and you.
You were flying into another dimension, and I didn't know.
You talked to me, but I didn't want to listen.
You weren't there the next day.
I will regret the rest of my life.
You, my Lua, my everything, my nowhere to be found, my everything to look for.

Paw Prints In the Sand

PAW PRINTS IN THE SAND

David Lasaine 2017

When you were alone, I was there.
When the sun rose or set, I was there.
When you faced death, I was there.
When you were sad, I was there.
When the darkest of times happened, I was there.
When you shivered...I was your warmth.
When you cried, I tasted your tears.
When you slept...I protected you.
We shared many wonderful memories, you and me.
We laughed and played together.
I asked not for much: a belly rub and my side scratched.
To be walked a few times a day.
I put my life in your hands to care for me, to feed me...to love me.
I served you with unconditional love and faithfully during my life.
And when I am gone, until we meet in the Spiritual World.
Please do not forget me...I will be waiting for you.

Eternally Yours,
Your Faithful Companion

Ode To Amber Heard

Ode to Amber Heard

My dog stepped on a bee,
But it didn't faze me,
'Cause I was high and thought it was funny.
Please, forgive me.

My Dog

Viper my dog with light brown fur so pretty she is. Viper with a slim figure that when she walks she seems so carefree. I've never seen a dog like her full of emotions and life with smiles in her eyes. I love my dog because she is bright when she meets me at the gate. There I see I'll miss you very much when you die.

Premium MemberOde To a Devil Dog

I shall not linger, tarry, where,
Beneath the oaks, out of the glare,
I had a dog to bury, ere
I lose control, emotions flare.
Among the roots, precise, with care,
There was so little room to spare:
A cairn of rock so none would dare
To dig, to make inquiry there.
Failed him, of this I'm great aware.
At times, a bit too much to bear.
It is a tragic, sad affair,
And so I dug internment lair.
The two of us, a bonded pair.
That wondrous coat of fine black hair!
But, damn! His actions: hard to square.
With growling, fearful, narrowed stare,
Attacked an infant, small and fair;
Gave all of us an awful scare.
I vowed demise, a solemn swear.
The righteous end, and yet, beware:
'Twas grief, not vengeance, in the air,
Commended with a tearful prayer.

----------

(In memory of Dizzy, the devil dog, a border collie I had for about 10 years,
but had to put down when he attacked my grandson. The experience is not
recent, but the emotion is still raw after all these years)

Premium MemberOde To My Recliner

Thank you for being there, dear friend, dear one.
Thank you for holding the giant dog on your uplift.
I am sorry about his weight, but we have to feed him.
Thank you for not breaking yet, I feel you will eventually.

But for now, you are perfect for this big galoot and me.
We love sitting on you to play word games or to draw.
We are keeping our paints and glitter glues in the studio.
So you can breathe easy about that unfounded fear.

We love it when you soak up the sunrays from the window.
When you are toasty warm and cushy when we sit.
You are an amazing friend, and we love you – the dog and me.
Thank you for being there, dear friend, dear one.

Ode To An Orphan Outcast

A tiny runt who cannot run,
mom kicked me out because I limp.
The big dogs call me dumb, a gimp,
off-beat orphan, claimed by no one.

A Mowgli bumming all around,
Where is that warmer welcome mat?
there sits Bagheera, mama cat;
a foundling's hope perhaps is found.

She takes me in with her own kits;
they share and care for me at last.
Not long and I forget my past;
my name escapes the dog obits.

King of Lies

King of Lies

I've seen many evil things, so that you didn't have to.
I've fought my share of evil, occasionally I bled for you.
Should that day come for me, where I cannot make it through.
that evil never took me, it was the knife you threw.
You banished me to solitude, rotting in the darkest night.
But it’s in those pitch-black holes you dug, where I truly learned to fight.
Did your ego grow much larger, when you chained me like a dog!
Did you really think you’d break me? I grew stronger in the fog.
I’m not waiting for apologies, if you tried, I’d know you lied.
Because I know inside, you’re empty, and my fire has never died.
Forever I’m a hunter and you’re the king of lies.
While you hide with all your insects I’ll be soaring through the skies.
You sat back, watched and waited while your henchmen did your deeds.
Yet You failed to stomp me out, instead you just sowed more seeds.
You planted them to close, to the foundation of your home
And as those roots grow stronger, they will continue to roam.
They will penetrate all you stand upon, they will bring your castle down
And while you’re trapped within the rubble, I’ll still be standing strong.
