It's a Hard Road, and My Wheels Are Breaking Down

I’ve chosen a hard road
One full of slings and arrows
Regrets about what happened yesterday
Anxieties over tomorrow

I’m teaching the words
To children who don’t care to hear
Enforcing the code of discipline
Before morality disappears

I’m walking a hard road
Surrounded by ice and fire
Deciding between responsibility
And quenching my desire

I’m writing the words
For Johnny Who Don’t Wanna Read
Carving my memoir into

Breaking Down Borders

Borders, lines drawn in the sand
Dividing people, dividing land
But in our hearts, we know it's true
We are one, me and you

For deep inside, we all yearn
To cross these borders, to learn
From each other, from every race
And build a world, a better place

A world where all are seen as one
And love and peace are never done

This morning our computer died;
Our car won’t start as well.
The bathroom sink was clogged last month;
Our hand-washed towels smell.

The pipe beneath the kitchen sink
Had water shooting out.
A total breakdown seems to be
What life is all about.

The super fixed the pipe; tomorrow
We’ll call Triple-A
And hopefully a jump will make 
The battery obey.

Breaking Down Barriers

It is no small act that follows
no leaps nor bounds
as we are bound
the square, white-washed walls
crumbling, no doors, no sound

but who are we 
are we not what one perceives
stuck to our one room box

we break down walls
chains
colour splashes from our minds
deep duck pond greens 
clouded and clumsy periwinkle blues
rich like yellow satins 
seducing our sky
dawning

Caught in the depths of my shadows within
          Breathing in the plague of all the vermin
               Nauseated stomach and bile on my chin

We live in a world of so many ethnic divides

The future is in trying to unite

Healing the damage trying to make things right,

The colour of your skin or your belief

Makes you in no way different from me,

It's nothing we see when we are kids

It's something our parents and peer group taught,

To fear anything you don't

Our bodies, like machines, break down,
Their warranties expired,
So slowly we relinquish
Certain habits we’ve acquired.

The jog morphs into walking;
The glass of wine, a sip.
The dinners switch to “early birds”
At places not so hip.

The muscles and the joints get stiff;
We don’t move quite as fast.
A good night’s sleep is something
We remember from the past.

We visit doctors, hoping

Slowly one’s life like my rich ancient culture slowly breaks down/
