Friendships and Holidays

I texted her Thanksgiving.
Asked what she’s doing for a living.
I texted her on Christmas Day.
If she was doing ok.
I sometimes admit.
That I almost quit.
Trying to reach out to old friends.
But the holidays are when hope upends.

I texted her New Year’s Eve.
It feels like I was just raking the leaves.
But the cold has settled.
I almost want to backpedal.
I text her each holiday.
With not much to say.
Using exclamation points!
Hurts my finger joints.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Happy Easter is all I can say!
Even the Fourth of July.
I want to talk, but simply say “hi.”

I texted her Thanksgiving, once more.
She sends a smiley face I adore.
I sent her a turkey back.
Old texts start to stack.
I decided to delete them right then.
If not now, then when?

I texted her Thanksgiving Day.
There’s not much more to say.

Premium MemberOde to Love

churning, crazy-making firestorm
upends reason to disrepair
heightens our senses, our esteem
blinds us to flaws unseen

Oh Mother’s reckless devotion
withstands all adversity
delusional in admiration
eyes obscured, see only perfection

friendship’s less passionate attachment
bathes comfort in your presence
shoulder to shoulder in solidarity
resists all faltering objectives

but lover’s glance and glow
a rose-burst of saccharine extremism
the hummingbird of lust
attracted endlessly to Nectar’s sweet serum

yet painful powerful rejections
still intoxicate the supplicant
the moth’s vigilant pursuit of love-light
singes its wings if only to feel the warmth again

love, you dance so delicately before us
then reach back gracefully
you beacon or grab in brash enthusiasm
to overfill our souls to bursting

See through me

I keep beauty, strength, and resilience
Wrapped around my arm
I see grace, love, and motherhood
Dancing in a smile
I see the scars on her soul
And the pain of her past
The tears behind the laugh
I hear her witty charm
Hiding behind shyness.
Guarded but not cynical
Sincere and unabashed
And yet leaving space for others misfortune and fault.
Her courage upstages her fear
Her strength upends her hurt
Love overwhelms disdain.
She is confident what is right and wrong
And yet does not judge.
I see love dancing on a laughter guilded soul
And she is beautiful.

      I’ll meet you halfway
      set fire to both ends
        Kiss you in stasis
      as our world upends
       God it feels so good
    when balance transcends

           Separated yes
      the crossing’s now ash
      Lost due to movement
      and one lonely splash
      Our love abridged? No
            devilishly rash

Pretense

Forensic evidence is no pretense against the defense/
It will prove prevalence in the family’s ordinance/
Moronic elements that ail his laments are just sordid and dense/
More on it as the envelopment to derail inherent ends he upends/
Four chronic tipple alcoholics sail away an heir apparent out of pretense/
Tour scenic and hop the fence frail to tear a new pair of parents for greed sense/
Sore we’ve beaten it in old hallways as we dance trails to romance and breed new brands/
Bore logic that grants pathways with complete relevance and developments of freelance/
All remnants of other incidents one of which would enhance such reverence/
With immense radiance compliance and patience will lead to confidence/
Competence is of the utmost importance in these pants with no ignorance/
Encourage tolerance in the newest plans to advance these new contents

Premium MemberPopping-Glad Roses

Popping-glad roses,
  lipstick red,
watered in crystal vase,
small as the ledge
of a pond.
                  pondering
those blossoms, yet to be lit,
with their potential flames.

ruffled scent of glory
   in their short-lived story.

three will croon, late-bloomers -
   still cocooned.

bronze deer nods his head
in amen-annunciation -

the hourglass upends the pond
in existential happiness.

Premium MemberMonths of Moments

What was I up to while we were locked-in?
I was busy contemplating sin.
I had months and months of moments to spend,
Ms chaste without, misdeeds within.

Lust, like seasickness - upends reason
and it burns like underbrush fuel.
So dust my DNA, and ID my dirty dreamin'
am I guilty of breaking some rule?

Obsessive Constraints Part Two

asper the invisible nemesis – i.e. electrical
impulses faux nattering nabobs of mien nativity
whereat unseen thriving sensational riffraff
quenched powerhouse ousting nestled milk
maids, or rather pressing said resources,

sans vitality into dangerous, frivolous,
and horrendous self destructive antics,
where ballistic charges drugged eminent
domain former nerve cell size occupants,
thoroughly re-engineering sense and sensibility

with pride fullness and prejudice on par
with dousing one with opiate completely
upends functioning healthily, judging lovingly,
and managing productively versus expending
precious time and energy self absorbed

even as of this moment hound me
akin to wild beasts circling ever closer
to launch mortal kombat against their very housing.

All In a Day's Work

verse

I was fixing supper not so long ago,
the kitchen full of smells, sights and sounds;
a new dessert was ready for applause.
We were waiting on Gramps to get home from work.
In retrospect, it was not so bad as it seemed.

Smiling, I recall three moments with grandkids -
a memory of a supper hard to forget.
Chase upends half a box of spaghetti
over the floor, I look for an extra box
as the dog poops on the carpet near the sink.

Suddenly, my ancient microwave blows a fuse
spinning us in total darkness. “Watch your step!
Don’t anybody move.” I stumble downstairs
headlong into Jackson and his art project.
“Who turned the lights out?” he bellows with blame.

“Ring-a-ling!” Who’d call me at a moment like this?
"Honey, I'm running late – just go ahead and eat."
Lights on! Both messes cleaned up! I decide -
“Kelly, will you blow us up some balloons?
party time - we'll have supper by candlelight.”

Each Day's Step

Each day’s steps

Each day’s steps stolen and stinks not sinks
Taken to the success
Horrible pucks
Each day’s steps stolen and stinks not sinks

Tomorrow’s steps swallowed
Determining the determination by the demotion
Steps taken today, awaken the abandoned in pain of rain
Each day’s steps stolen and stinks not sinks

The drizzle idle of ideal
Compare lengths of their steps
Depending tallness to reach the upends
Human lengths, weights and heights
The drizzle idle of ideal is running without under your own steam

Trepidation using owns-
Steps irregular considering
Heights, weights, and lengths in grottos

Equalize steps
While achieving success
