I am a mouse, I am I am
I am a mouse, I am
The sort you would surely kill
If you found me in your house.

I am a rat, I am I am
I am a rat, I am
Your voice would suddenly go shrill
If you found me in your hat.

Will Fly For Food

Acrobatic birds can dive energetically for glucose,
Even as the felines watch,
Waving their tailfeathers in the air,
To their perch, they add another notch.

Felines gain hope, inspiring jumpy keen longing,
The birds keep teasing the predators,
Flying lower as if doing the limbo,
Despite tempting fate, shunning grim reaper creditors.

Masterful nature offers perches quaintly, rightly spaced,
The birds take breaks from sweet drinks,
Fly lower, eating little leaf gnats,
Watching the cats snicker, as wingbeat winks.

Radiant songbirds travel ubiquitously, valiant warriors,
Beautiful as they fly, spreading song,
Despite teasing the cats on the ground,
A day without these creatures would feel too long.

Premium Member Dog as Folksinger

I found a bone
By the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream
By the old canal
I gnawed that bone
By the factory wall
Dirty old bone
Dirty old bone.

Shadow Tail

Tree top dwellers
Electric line leapers
Garage roof tenants
They seem to live solely
To gather nuts
Be chased by eager canines,
And flaunt their furry tails.

Premium Member The Passing

The vet had been sympathetic in his demeanour
as I gently placed my beloved Shih Zhu
on the sterile stainless-steel table amongst the fumes of disinfectant.
My emotional support pet was shivering uncontrollably with fear.
It took him two days to pass away peacefully.

He was two days in passing—reluctant to give up the good fight—
brave as always when I had supported him during past emergencies.
Life is not lived in a sterile environment—perfumed with expectations—
at times my Shih Zhu had tested my love for him with his antics.
The vet had been clinically detached in his assessment as I hid my fears.

Premium Member Call Of The Wild

Yes, I’m the cute little pooch,
You treat like a substitute child,
Domesticated and to some extent,
By breeding, I’m pedigree styled,
But don’t ignore my ancestral line,
For I still listen to the call of the wild,
And in my heart I’m still a wolf
And this wolf can be easily riled.

Premium Member Pat and Pete

The paper sack left on the floor
has come to life. It’s haunted. Look!
		It’s growling and gyrating now—
gone wild. It’s time somebody took

control. Aha! I’ve got ya now,
my little kitties in the sack.
I’ll get your lunch now, Pat and Pete.
Okay, I’ll let you ride my back.

Ouch! Watch the claws. They really hurt.
I’ll put thick blankets on my lap.
Then you can be so comfy but
won’t draw blood. Soon we’ll take our nap.

You’re fighting for the bouncy ball.
		Sometimes you’re an aggressive pair;
but, after all, you’re little ones.
Sometimes my human kids won’t share!

Don’t climb the curtains, Pat. Oh, Pete,
		you’ve overturned the water dish.
I see what y’all are staring at.
You can’t get to the kids’ goldfish!

You’re so much like the kids when they
		were small—just into everything.
When they get home from school, we five
will have ourselves a happy fling.

Premium Member Cute Cat Couple

Cute cat couple in the house, one white and one black,
our lovely pets, we call one Kite and the other Jack.
Wherever we go our close company they always keep,
on bed by our cozy side every night they like to sleep.

Jack would climb and roll over my sagged shoulder,
Kite would lie on paining thighs, for I’m getting older.
Knitting a sweater my wife sits on the sofa with the pet,
fur and wool strands intertwine to make it a unique set.

In separate bowls we give daily food to Jack and Kite,
for we’re in need of peace, don’t like to see them fight.
In the closed room when sounds subside, I sit in the dark,
listen happily to the rhythm of our pet cats’ silent walk.

We won’t let anyone touch or caress our charming cats,
nor would like them called our animal pets chasing rats,
for Jack and Kite are like our beloved children we fancy,
we don’t care a bit if people call us a feline couple crazy.

contented dog
stretches and yawns
no room for me

Premium Member GAME OF CAT AND ROBIN

my russian blue cat
static like a statue
on the sun-warmed
window ledge

laser-focused eyes
fixate
on the gum tree
leaves tremble
then still

shrewd cat waits
wet nose
smearing the glass

a robin’s fleeting shadow
darts across
a pool of sunlight
diving into
the center of the light
then swooping back again
in a blur of motion

my cat pounces
chasing the robin
around
the carpeted floor

over and over
he paws at
the imaginary catch
but each time
elusive robin
slips away

His pawprints linger

As a young kid back in the hood,
It was just me and a pet friend~
He was the joy of my childhood~
His remembrance would never end.

I called him Pup as a puppy,
Because the poops he made me pack,
Whenever he ate hushpuppy~
Which I enjoyed as a noon snack.

His name later changed to Hot Dog,
When that became his preferred meal.
At mealtime he'd happily jog,
Since dog food was then his raw deal.

He assisted in all my chores,
He followed me to every place~
He used to greet me on all fours,
From home to school, he kept his pace.

While returning home from my school,
On one hot summer afternoon,
He fell and got drowned in a pool,
To his death, I failed to attune.

Years passed, his memory lives on,
No pet has again brought the joy~
Of those beautiful days bygone,
His pawprints linger in my heart.

Old Man

Old Man

Old man asleep on the floor, does he dream of all his years from before. When in his youth he ran wild, digging and being the guardian of the farm where nothing dated go near? Or perhaps of escaping to only go to the pound, were they knew him by name, because of his frequent escapes he perfected to a tee. Graciously greeting him with hugs and treats, he was special to them on each one of his retreats.

This old man brought many years of unconditional love and companionship for me, but the end of his days are drawing near. I am grateful for each of those devoted years 18+ years along with great sadness when the end of his days are here. He's not just a dog but a part of me that will forever go on in my memory.

He sleeps more than usual because his body needs rest to prepare for his adventure he has next. I have no doubt his next adventure will be something he will look forward to, because of how great it will be. His adventure next will be no more old man but of youth and unwavering health in God's great hands.

Premium Member FUN

Funny things happen when you least expect them.
                                    Usually involving a cat.
                                     Napping on your face.

Premium Member Poo Poo Butt

When Kublai got a poo poo butt he would go and hide
the silly dog with his mess seem embarrassed and shy
But Genghis with his hind mess was eager for me to spy
he would trot in searching for me his eagerness beware
Wanted me to pick him up and tend to his dirty rear.
Off we go to clean him good and happy he would be
to have a clean behind made him playful indeed.
But Kublai would be missed after a little while
I would have to search and find my shy little pal.
His eyes were sad and his face long and droopy
we both knew he had a mess the little poopy
So I cleaned him up and trim there
for the old boy had quick growing hair
Than I would pick him up to hold
as he would lick my face being thankful so.
Sassy has short hair so that problem does not exist
but like Kublai the older she is the longer her hair gets
Having dogs is like having a little child
messy situations pop up but you never throw in the towel
Sometimes you want to cry but more often you laugh and smile.
