I must have promised to diligently strive
to get up each morning by half past five.
Drink my java, watch the news, keep
things quiet and let her snooze..
Wash up at our bathroom sink but keep
the faucet trickling so she gets a full drink..
Serve her a chicken pate dish, never meat
and seldom fish..
If I'm met with defeat offer a few temptation treats.
Brush my tresses and her hair, bless her with
a St. Anthony prayer..
Once the sun is fully up, let her out to strut her stuff..
When I forget or show some slack, I'm actually snubbed
by my very own cat!
I'll be sticking with this cat's agenda, heaven forbid I
might offend her..

Let the muse snooze!
The poor dear having been
drained of all rhyme in search
of reason…
Let the muse have a day
of rest...when, regenerated
he will be closer his best…
But don’t let the muse confess --
that he relies on a higher address…
maybe even, an all inspiring Jesus
He let his muse snooze…
what the heck, his muse
long played, the author
tried dealing word-cards
from his own pictured deck.
He dealt a rhyme, in manic time,
thinking himself a Carson City gambler
then a bandit with a slot marked dime
realizing himself a trite rambler
Then played a horn
and beat a drum….

In court, the accused
is produced and
charged with abuse,
no evidence is adduced,
the sentence is reduced,
he is not amused
to pay his dues
his name is in the news,
the public giving views
they have no clues
defense counsel does not snooze
no one wants to lose

The sun looked tired this morning
Yawning stretched shadows over silent birds
Teasing nighttimes sleeping flowers
As its lazy snooze alarm hummed idly

Go on,
I dare you!
Press me just one more time.
The alarm rings out,
Disturbing my slumber.
Dreams of sunshine,
beauty,
Sex, darkness.
The cold reality cuts like a knife.
Startled into sudden alertness.
Yet, in this harsh awakening,
A little ray of hope.
A tiny flicker that all will be ok.
That the new day which has dawned
is not so urgent.
Go on! I dare you.
Press the snooze button
just one more time!

Snowman took the largest snooze today.
The wren saw him and whistled merry and gay.
Trying to get a wink, a sigh or a hey hey hey
But the snowman was out of it in every way.

The Russians have landed on Mars!
They can't drive American cars
But neither can we
Its the dust, you see,
Plus the fact that there are no bars!
Trump needs more support for golf fees
All cash donations he seize (sees?)
But oh what the heck
Your stimulus cheque
Will work just as well, if you please!

My dearest one,
Where have you gone?
In these long days
I am bereft
Without your deft
Turn of phrase
To spark
My sluggish heart
From my verbose malaise
Are you upset, oh delicate
flower of finest select
Colors, who trickle
In fickle
Flame and fade
A sleight-of-hand shade
I mine fruitless lines
All which you bade
Too conveniently made
Sharply undefined
Is it me? Do I bore?
Are my attentions a chore?
I wish only this
To create words of bliss
But away you turn, as my implores
Thud, a dud, between your coarse snores
Maybe my flirty girl's
Creative cold snap
Just needs
Milk and cookies
And a cat-nap.

Streetlights flicker in daybreaks doubt.
Grayish clouds mope lazily.
Sunrise smirks at the early risers.
Dewdrops dangle on yellowed leaves.
A cat shakes his wet paws.
Robins wrangle chilled worms.
A squirrel maps his acorn field.
Frail winds stifle the hawk’s wings.
Late bloomers shiver in the sun’s lie.
School bus stops chatter.
The old dog yawns and looks at the door.

I am the dreamt of the Dreamer
knowing no more what matters
can be acknowledged, are you still
sleeping oh thou I perhaps have called
God in my younger years of sleep
imbued with the sense of aloneness
never to be seen no more than a
rock stillness persists despite all of
the advancement which is simply running
on the tracks of time, over and over
again we disappear into machines
angry hearts forgetting the restfulness
of silence...oh Dreamer of a billion years
where have you gone...do you remember
why you began this dream? Were you
lonely or merely alone in your creation
of imagination? What if you could
animate the furniture of your mind?
what if you could awaken to playmates
playing back with you, just as in chess
my turn, your turn, and so on
until it was time to put the dream to
snooze alarm hit –more time required?
bordering on the mundane I think you
have forgotten what you began...are we
alone now?

A wide awake snooze made me scream
Held me in the clutches of a well-earned dream.
An elephant in pajamas came running up fast.
He pushed me aside, and made the sign of a bast.
A wide awake snooze held me captive in my head.
I thrashed and I crashed,, and I fell out of the bed.
My dad yelled, "What's that?" But I could not open my eyes.
So I stayed on the floor, curled up with some left over fries.
My snooze was determined to keep my eyes solidly shut.
I fought her for awhile, but soon gave up in my gut.
She was much too strong for me, this wide away snooze.
So I envisioned myself a frog, deciding to stay off the booze.

Santa Hits The Snooze Button
Santa went out last night dressed as mutton
drinking too much at the costume party.
Being a glutton woke up with a hearty
hangover.
He turned over
and hit the snooze button one more time.
Mrs. Santa gave him a cup of lime,
tomato juice, and beer to get over
the hangover.
Wake up. Wake up. Please wake up.
I can't. I stayed out too late with Buttercup.
I ate and drank until it I tossed up
all of my cookies and liquor sup.
Santa! Wake up. Please wake up
before the morn and children wake up.
Rudolph battery is running low
before it goes while it still glows
you need to deliver all the children's toys.
You're going to ruin the joy of the girls and boys.

Santa Hits The Snooze Button
(For Christmas Cheer contest)
Santa woke up feeling fruity
The Mrs was spark out
He grinned cos in a minute
His Rudolph clock would shout
Whinny, whinny, moo, quack
Whinny, whinny, neigh
(How’s a poet sposed to know
What Reindeer clocks might say)
Even though his wife nowadays
Is lamb dressed up as mutton
He sees her how she used to be
So wallops that snooze button
So Santa’s got ten minutes
For undercover fun
Please excuse the metaphor...
He’s got a loaded gun
We’ve got a spare ten minutes
Come take your man to heaven
Well what we gonna do she said
With the other seven

Took a little snooze;
