Contest Description

IMPORTANT!

re caps

To all who participated in my previous contest, thank you and to the 37 winners, congratulations, it was a pleasure to read you all, Mick

5-7-5

PLEASE READ THE RULES, FAILURE TO DO SO MIGHT COST YOU A PLACEMENT!

What to Submit?

1 ONE original, haiku/haiga on the theme of SUMMER based on the use of a kigo. Click on kigo for a list. The words SUMMER or SUMMERTIME MUST  NOT BE USED. Disregard, no placement. Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

2 A rule I have overlooked, haiku should only be written in the present tense, it is now implemented.  My thanks to Line Gauthier for the heads up. Disregard, no placement. Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

3 NO SIMILES and METAPHORS follow the link if you're not sure, it will open in a new tab.

4 The only acceptable title is haiku or just haiga if posted with a picture, note I won't see the image until the contest is finalised! Disregard, no placement. Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

There is a good reason for my request for named poetry can be googled, or entered into Poetry Soup search engine and easily found. Yes, it can still be found, it'll just take a lot longer. The truth is I like surprises, much more fun finding out after judging who the winning authors are.

5 Three lines, 5, 7, 5 or fewer syllables per line. Disregard, no placement. Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

6 No punctuation, but ellipses/dashes and apostrophes (..., —, '), are permissible. Disregard, no placement. Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

7 No capital/s letter/s at the start of lines or elsewhere, the only exception to this rule are proper nouns. Disregard, no placement! Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

8 All haiku must be new and dated. No date no placement. The date of composure only because all entries must be new. That's absolutely all that's needed, no need for anything else. Check for updates if your haiku didn't conform to the rules you will have a chance to edit out errors.

9 Whilst the contest is open, please do come back and check for updates, thank you.
