A word acrostic poem based on the following lines from Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

If you need a friend 
I'm sailing right behind 
Like a bridge over troubled water 
I will ease your mind

A word acrostic uses words instead of letters. Each of the words in the lines above is the first word in each line of your poem as a partial template below shows:

If yadda yadda yadda
You yadda yadda yadda
Need yadda yadda yadda
A yadda yadda yadda
Friend yadda yadda yadda

The poem form must be defined as Acrostic. There are 20 words in the acrostic, so your poem will have 20 lines as well, which you can form into stanzas in various ways, if you wish.

N.B. The words in the acrostic are part of the poem as well. You can highlight them some way if you wish. The content of the poem must reflect the same message and tone of the acrostic, and it will be an important part of the judging criteria.

Poetic devices such as rhyme, regular meter, alliteration,metaphors, etc will rank your poem higher. 

On meter: If you decide to use regular meter, I just mean a discernible, consistent pattern of flow. Every line does not have to have the same number of syllables. It can be alternating, long and short, for example. It just needs to be consistent, and not choppy.

Prizes: I am awarding placements in 5 tiers of quality rather than absolute rankings, so there will be multiple placements. I will try to include as many poems as possible, the main criterion being following the rules.
My judgment is final.

Preparing Your Entry

Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts. 

English Language

Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible, unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.

A Note to Poetry Contestants

You are welcome to enter this contest, whether or not you won a prize in one of my previous contests.

Roy, the way you define the contest leaves no room for mistakes. All judges should be this informative. But a lot of poets do not take the time to check out the blogs unfortunately. Even saying it on the contest page does not always help, but I think this is great contest idea, just like your last one was.
