Skywardly yearning, wheeling and turning, an exaltation of larks! Lines interleaving, wings interweaving an orchestration of arcs! Just shadow and light imbuing their flight, shape-shifting magic they fly. With artistic flair, their canvas the air, this brush of wings paints the sky! July 22,2014

Congratulations on your winning big in Dr. Ram's contest Roy. I didn't realize this was an Alouette when I read it because of the missing meter, but I remember now he said it didn't need to be present. It is still a favorite and stands alone. Love the picture you have with it too.

I have watched the birds do what you are describing, although I did not know that larks did it. I love the shape-shifting magic and brush of wings paints the sky. Congratulations on your top win.

Ah, two of my favorite things, birds and painting. A superb portrait of art as Liberty Roy. Gold finches do this freedom dance well too! J.A.B.

Hi Roy, Was just observing this phenomenon yesterday and noting how breathtaking and beautiful. You capture that in this verse, as well as the feeling of undulating, swirling movement. Great image! Thank you. D.

I guess that is what they call "Poetic License" LOL. We have scads of the starlings where I live, I guess they have overpopulated. They are like a cloud of energy. One morning one group swooped down from the sky right along side of me as I walked. WOW! Blessings, Diana

Thanks, Diana. However, the most awesome displays are by giant flocks of starlings (a murmuration), but I just had to find a way to use the collective noun for larks, an exaltation, as it is so beautiful a word. The poor crows (a murder of crows) pulled the short straw, I guess.
