I would sit under the pawpaw tree

I would sit under the pawpaw tree
And the world would come to me.
They said all you need is a dream,
A pen and a pad to make it beam.

But Mother, in these streets, I see,
A world that's swallowed up my poetry.
My books, once filled with vibrant hues,
Now gather dust, like forgotten muse.

This world doesn't care, it's plain to see,
About you, me, or my art's ecstasy.
It doesn't care about the colors I blend,
Or the emotions my words intend.

I wrote above the deterred wall
A cry and a poet’s final call
A feeling, a pen and a pad
I care about me
Unwavering and glad.

Pawpaw Adage of Life

PAW PAW ADAGE OF LIFE.

I know this fruit
I know its old nursery rhyme
I love its taste so sweet
The softness and sweetness align

But where thou grow makes me wonder
In bola thou stand amidst dirt
Cheered by smells and empty nylons
There you stand so tall and with ripe fruits

Thou sweetness is like Cummings
Your surrender on the mouth like a soft romance
Your taste on the lips sweet like a lovely kiss

Your watery body make my mouth wet
While my tongue leak up your juice
As it gives a slippery passage
For your easy sliding into my waiting stomach.

This I know I for sure
A star can shine in the dark sky
When nature unlucks its features
From nowhere a man shines.

A Feast In Ashanti

In the fading august sunset
I walk out of my mud house
In my checkered coloured kente
And dazzling wooden slippers.
As the sounds of the drums echo behind
I dance to the tune of its melodic songs.
Gong Gong Gong Gong Gong!
The beats resound whirling along with
Soothing tune from the pawpaw stick flute.
I chant along with the crowds "nana oo nana"
In recognition to kings of ashanti kingdom.
Royals worth their weight in Gold,
As am Awed by a culture that never gets old.
I dine with the kings at the adai kesse festival,
An indigenous gathering beneath my feet in kusmasi.

Premium MemberNorth Americas Southern Trees

Deep in the south, lives the Southern Pine.
I love the fresh pine scent, it’s really quite divine.
The palms adorn the water’s edge, such sturdy summer trees.
As they grow, they will bend and shape up in the breeze.

The Magnolia has a lovely flower; its scent is, oh so sweet.
Downwind in the evening breeze; it makes the day complete.
Evergreens unfurling their new baby greens; will make a fright, Halloween;
when their mass of moss highlights eerie moons scenes.

The Catalpas displaying their long pods; nicknamed Cigar Trees;
create an eerie vision of waving fingers in the breeze.
Pawpaw trees, with their sweet fruits; better than bananas;
These tasty treats are great to eat so, fill up your bandanna!

Southern trees are beautiful, like Cypresses and Red Cedars. You must go south to see them all; yes you must, dear readers.

Is Pam To Be a Mother Focker

Greg Focker was always an awkward man,
only fiancée Pam could understand-
Jack would be his in-law,
and soon baby’s Pawpaw,
retired CIA in all the land.

The Focker’s housekeeper was Isabel,
rumors Greg had an affair and didn’t tell-
Had a spawn named Jorge,
from Greg’s roll in the hay,
in young puppy love dear Greg Focker fell!

Suspicious Jack kept his eye on Greg’s life,
since his daughter Pam would be his sweet wife-
Don’t mess with government,
they show no sentiment,
he made Greg’s days full of torment and strife.

Jack decides to give Greg ol’ truth serum,
knowing sorry Greg really did fear him-
Blurts out Pam is pregnant,
that wasn’t his whole intent,
but did angry Jack really hear him?

Turns out Jorge wasn’t really Greg’s son,
ends up marrying Pam, had lots of fun-
Jack will always despise,
but so soon realize,
for his daughter Greg was the perfect one!

Cowboy Boots

Paw paws shed was packed very full.
Of different things but mainly tools.
I helped him out to find some nails.
Looking in boxes up high on shelves.
I looked over my shoulder and there sat a stool.
Underneath was a box of old cowboy boots.
Pawpaw sat close and cleared his throat.
He said a man's boots will tell you about his roots, will tell you what type of man, if he's even worth a damn.
A pair of these here should have many tares, from hunting and fishing, bass and deer.
The soles may be torn falling apart. This is From a man who travels very far.

If there's a hole on his knee, where his jeans should be. this is the type of man you want to marry. He's a Christian man, who kneels down to pray to God faithfully.

Irony of Life

IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE WHY SOME OF US RUSH FRUITS LIKE APPLE, RIPE PAWPAW, MANGO, ORANGE AND MANY MORE.
WHAT I DON'T GET IS WHY FEW OF US STILL CAN'T DETATCH OURSELVES FROM FRUITS LIKE LIME AND LEMON
DESPITE HOW STRICTLY SOUR THEY TASTE.
SAME APPLIES TO THE CHOICE OF FRIENDS WE KEEP.
EVEN WHEN FEW OF THEM MAKE US CRY IN THE CLOSET
WE STILL CANT LET GO OF THEM.

MYSTERY OF LIFE.

I

Each day I become a victim
Each day I am traumatized

I gave birth to humanity
Yet I am forced!
I raised humanity
Yet I am threatened!

Men think I am pretty
Then why am I there slave?
They say they love us
But why do they rape?

Are we Pawpaw’s?
Of which everyone eats the outer flesh!
and the inner seeds are thrown away!
Failing to realize that it is the inner seed which gives rise to a tree of pawpaw

Are we old clothes?
Which people discard after they get new ones!
And never look back at them!
Failing to realize that once it was this clothe which covered them
Each day I become a victim
Each day I am traumatized

Hidden Beauty

The able had plucked all the yellow on top.
They had carted away with all the lemon too;
Left only the green on the papaya tree.
The lame came and left with the green they met.
On the dinner-table was the last pawpaw shock:
The yellow were icky,the lemon were rotten too;
Only the green were red and crispy in their mouths.

Brother

Brother, brother, pray, help me out;
Climb the ladder to the top,
And bring down the pawpaw fruit.

Brother, brother, you got it now.
Climb the ladder down, let us share
And taste the joy of brotherhood.

Brother, brother, bring forth the fruit
You were to pluck with your hand of power,
And send some down to the lower man.

Brother, brother, treat me not so.
Recollect the kindly deed i did,
And let me taste of the fruit.

Brother, brother, cling to the top,
But I envy you no more,
As while you’re there, i see your shame!

The Zebra Swallowtail Butterflies

They float rather than fly with their kite-tailed long wings,
watch them descending on tulips, blueberries and lilacs:
these butterflies are yellow-green striped and love pawpaw trees;
imagine Nature without their fluttering sounds and stunning colors!

The zebra swallowtail butterflies work too hard as they constantly move,
sipping the sweet nectar found on flowers and trees, but not on clove!
Oh, they are as delicate as petals...ever wondered where they came from?
Their life span is brief and before winter arrives, they'll be gone and won't roam.

Plant more shrubs and fragrant flowers and your garden will be
visited by them on cool and warm afternoons so scented and dandy,
and they will leave as the shadowy evening brings on many lady-bugs
to replace those lovely zebra swallowtails with their constant glows.

Yesterday around noon, a zebra swallowtail butterfly fell into my open hand,
I tried to console with my human touch...she was badly hurt;
her wings were broken and she could hardly crawl or look...
perhaps she wanted me to keep her and remember her after she was dead.

The Cancer Note

The cancer note
          For Pawpaw

Every time
I walked in
Your hospital room
A smile formed on your face
With open arms.

A priest
With a bible
Would enter daily
To pray for this sickness
To end
Even though you knew
Your time was limited.

You never really believed in a God
But without a wife
To hold on to
Or health that would give hope
You turned
To your Catholic religion.

Hoping God
Would relieve your skin tone
With your energy
And happiness.

That note you wrote
Made many people cry
But I never really
Understood it
Until now.

You wrote
"God is true. Give your life to him."
