They are now but cash cows
(a trough in which to quaff)
for the many attendees
who sit on long-winded
Government-funded investigation committees
no one around to hear the sound
(of what falls in the woods)
while their coffers swelled
for all the papers printed on the ecology
more than several trees were felled
the fracking drilling boring too
(found underground)
wastes water in copious quantities
releases greenhouse gas
and undermines the earth in the final analyses
deliberate discussion and debate
('til the cows come home)
to which they are compelled
only exacerbates the issue
of global warming
with all their hot air expelled

Church Wedding Day Bells ring
Soon we will be together as one
Our love will always be among
Attendees will observe
Our voices being words
Heart to Heart
Eye to Eye
Love devotion committed
Hand in Hand directed
Exchanging vows
Under Heaven’s watch
The Rings and Kiss
My Friend and Partner
Man and Wife
Strong Foundation
Reception in our honor
The Music and Dance
Our spotlight
Enchanted for sure
Our ever after
Honeymoon joy
Embark
Embrace
Love now into ever more.

The pizza trucks were parked outside
With bakers rolling dough
And spreading it to fit the pans,
The toppings set to go.
The crusts were thin and crispy;
The veggies, sauce and cheese
Were baked to such perfection
That they couldn’t help but please.
Attendees lined up patiently
And generously plated
While just outside, the pizza people
Prepped for those who waited.
How cool and modern, this approach
To feeding all the crowd.
No fuss, no muss for those who host,
Yet all who eat are wowed.

Can we put a man on the moon?
Just asking, hope not too soon..
We've built him a rocket
In the shape of a bed
With nice fluffy pillows
For his white fluffy head
Powered by electrickery
With buttons and dials
It's sure to be comfy
For those final few miles
Can we put a man on the moon?
Not so gender exclusive
It's just time is short
And our volunteer effusive
We have oxygen prepped
With fire safety assessment
All the food is prepared
Every cover and vestment
Has been guilded with love
And we've washed up the dishes
Now a hareem of beauty
To attend to his wishes
It's an easier challenge
Than a rocket and booster
If the attendees can wake up
Without the aid of a rooster
A launch date is looming
So the countdown is clicking
It's weather dependent
And that red button keeps sticking
Not the end of his journey
But the start of another
This spaceman is ready..
Leaving me and my brother
Can we put a man on the moon?
It's an easier ask
But saying goodbye..
That's the heart-wrenching task

A well-attended party ends;
Halfway through, it went bust.
A wind of change blew in
A consuming cloud of dust.
The music was on full blast.
Attendees danced with great gusto.
Suddenly, gunshots rang out!
It was all fun just moments ago!
A tempest of sheer terror
Swept through the large crowd;
A roaring kerfuffle ensued
And grew increasingly loud;
Some fleeing partygoers
Knocked each other down like dominoes
Toward the exit doors. Why someone
Comes to a party armed, nobody knows!

Little princess in satin shoes and dress
Curtain rises as she makes her debut,
Important attendees are me and you
She has been afraid of making a mess
Dancing across stage’s apron finesse,
To a rousing applause in ev'ry pew
Little princess in satin.
Tomorrow her troupe will be in the press
I’m certain she’ll receive a top review
She’s already got an award or two,
She continues to blossom, what progress!
Little princess in satin.

Your smile was brilliant as you took a bow.
The upper echelon had welcomed you.
You donned humility, expressing how
we loyal members of your staff were due
deep gratitude. So few attendees knew
how often you’d demeaned us through the years
by saddling us with your less pleasant tasks.
We balked a little; you played on our fears
of job loss. We put on our happy masks.
Quite frequently, you saunter by and ask,
“Do you still like your job?” This time I’ll say,
“I don’t; I never did, your Majesty!
Your fine machine will lose a cog today.
If other peons leave, perhaps you’ll see
a boss like you makes people want to flee!”

The man,
the actor, Will Smith,
turned himself
into a verb
with one stinging
"heard-around-the-world" slap
across Chris Rock's face
at the Oscar ceremony.
Whether he likes it
or not, he's now
a guaranteed verb,
at least in the eyes
of household-name rappers.
Some were Oscar attendees
Some were viewers.
Many watching from home
Quickly grabbed paper and pen;
They live for such moments.
I can see the rap lyrics now...
"Black on black, like Smith against Rock"
"Word to mutha, I'mma Will Smith the competition!"
"I done Smithed them wack MCs"
Oh, it's coming, believe me.
But from whom? Who will be first?
Drake?
Wiz Khalifa?
Eminem?
Perhaps Cardi B? Hey, you never know!
Stay tuned....
Assuming you're into hip Hop.

Speech after speech, the summit dragged on
though all agreed every nation had won
Then on the day when the bomb descended
and life on Earth as we know it ended
Indignant attendees were up in arms
~ for climate change had done no harm

Meeting Attendees
They arrive at seven.
The morning early birds.
Hoping for donuts probably.
There are none.
Two slide in the back visibly late at 7:40.
This meeting ends at 7:45.
One says she overslept.
The other makes some inane excuse about going back home for her lunch.
Same two every week, same excuses.

//Superstitions//
I grew up to know;
// // // //
That a pregnant woman mustn't
be on street in the middle of a sunny day,
for the foetus her stomach houses might
be swapped for spirits from ancestral world.
That a grown up lad that bedwets
should pay twilight homage
to an upright tree
& twist butts in its presence.
That to trip over your left leg tells
/dooms/red light/misfortune/& bad luck/
&whenever I smash my right feet
o'er an hidden root,it's positivity & goodluck.
That when a star rushes down
& vacate the sky,
it's a proverbial way of telling
us 'bout the exit of an hero.
That ghosts find ways out of their beds
& come home each thursdays,visiting
their households & foods should either
be sprayed outside or placed in, uncovered !
That whoever urinates in river has
ignorantly dared Oluweri's wrath
&attendees at his ceremonies shall
be drenched by violent downpour.
That mothers that die aren't dead,
They loiter around, watching after their fruits.
That a sudden weird wave in the ear drum
is an evil call from the terrestrial world.

There was a woman whose name Caroline
She dreamed one day she could teach online
She learnt technology tools
But never tried to take schools
While teaching she found her students offline.
*****
All students were invited to join zoom
To download the app and attend classroom
The teacher sent a passcode
There were works on the main road
The attendees still in the waiting room.
*****
Caroline did not give up on her dream
She devised a very clever scheme
Got training on e-learning
Attended virtual schooling
At home she could host members of her team.
*****
Caroline tried to lend students a hand
They worked with all the tools at their command
She bought for each a smart phone
To build a life of their own
Caroline henceforth had it all in hand.

A red-streaked panorama graced Washington's dawn
Clear lake-blue skies there all day long
Portland smoke-gray, from tear gas and pepper spray
Antifa showed its true colors on Inauguration Day
Not a hint of outrage from the government or the press
It's alright if the fascists are left-wing, I guess
At the Inaugural Ball, attendees donned their prettiest dress
Masks muting their 'concern' over the Oregonian mess
