Howling Wilderness
windswept
bleak treeless plain
white blanketed mountains
permafrost hardened ground, I am
alone

On the edge where sea meets sky,
A canvas stretched, the kites soar high.
With every gust, my spirit flies,
Chasing waves beneath the blue skies.
Harnessed freedom, the ocean's embrace,
Dancing with the wind, a thrilling race.
Salt on my skin, the sun's warm glow,
In this moment, I’m alive, I know.

Windswept
Over sheet music, harmonious movement of sand.
Droplets of rain dance - time swooning on sea and on land.
Cupid’s arrows climb, descend strings of the violin.
Heartthrobs, side by side, in best dress, on seasonal spin.
Fingers up and down long necks, in obeisance of song,
as bow ties glide along knightly, mounting music, strong.
Ultra concentration as the conductor gyrates,
creates, weights, debates, elongates, plaits and translates.
Unity in mass, jealousy laid aside, except
for the audience who longs to climb inside, windswept.
Ebb and flow of tears, patiently are kept and foreswear
allegiance to current marriage with hasty prayer.
Silver fox-french horns, don’t withhold their breaths, breasts pounding.
With lilt, rapturous, they’d give up their lives, resounding.
White pages, pristine ties, good looking manners of tides.
Hourglass climax expires. Silence shatters. Faith abides.

A gentle breeze is blowing through the trees,
whistling a lively tune in an aspen grove.
Rustling golden leaves as if they were dancing
to Autumn's song before they tumble and fall.
Windswept to the ground, an amber carpet
found when nature wants to change her gown.

sailing on fresh breeze
my hat is off for a ride
alluring blue skies
fragrant flowers cringe
until gold moment all's clear
windsongs at windows
a determined quest
from orange clouds to the ground
in in-between hours
scattered grave matter
in the whirlpool of hued days
sparkling in slow time

Windswept nimbus sentinels are gathering
quickly darkening the noon day sky.
Sunlight wanes, becoming veiled
behind layers of opaque clouds.
Like shrouds they hasten by.
Gusting winds approach from the north,
forewarning of a tempest storm.
I hear thunder beating on his drum,
followed by claps from many more
as the chilling temperature quickly falls.
Winter's fingers are traveling with speed
and waves are crashing along the coast.
Their frothy bubbles reach the shore,
filling puddles in the sand at high tide.
Gulls screech in search for one last meal
before finding a haven in clearer skies
and mariners hurry in search of safe harbor.
Maple branches sway with the wind,
collecting earthbound snowflakes
upon their bare limbs while
Mother Nature is changing her faded dress
from the wrinkled one she wore in Autumn.
It's torn and tattered upon the ground
in shades of gold, crimson and brown.
She's donned a lovely glittering new garment,
a brocaded gown and cloak of Winter white.

bluster in moonlight
all around lime trembling trees
and through fragrant fields
in a far flung dream
to be everywhere at once
under diamond stars
blooms have lost petals
there's howling in the valley
drowning out all sounds
raging's at the door
and all the windows rattling
cozy fires tonight

Those pesky leaves adored by youth.
Hued leaves and wind, a conjoined twin.
Autumn flurry of windswept sooth.*
Kids harvest fell-wings, to jump in.
Hued leaves and wind, a conjoined twin.
The twirl, the whirl of crimson red.
Kids harvest fell-wings, to jump in.
Crisp yellow, brown and purple fed.
The twirl, the whirl of crimson red.
Six feet deep, each yard grows fatter.
Crisp yellow, brown and purple fed.
When swept in piles, they oft’ scatter.
Six feet deep, each yard grows fatter.
Autumn flurry of windswept sooth.
When swept in piles, they oft’ scatter -
Those pesky leaves adored by youth.

High atop a mountain, a windswept hill
I thought I'd found my true love, name of Jill
We arched our backs and kissed
I thought I heard a 'Pssst'

Mournful tears flow in pale moonlight
Loneliness shadows me this dark night
I thirst for wings, hunger to take flight
on a journey across the windswept sea
until dawn or death washes over me

Wind Swept Beauty.
.
Upon hilly brackish tor
Of a wild inhospitable
Windswept ambling moor
Woolly sheep chew cud and bleat
In the shadow of the over looking
Rugged towering sister mountains
.
A sprawling sweeping land
Of tawny browns and greens
And carpets of purple heather
Laid by God’s hand in between
.
Linier lecithin blotched
Higgledy piggledy drystone walls
Boundary lines
Thickets of bracken
Woody copper copse
With steeple wind battered tree tops
.
Silver ribboned stream and brooks
Snaking through the rugged land
Gushing rushing over
Stone pebble and boulder
Sparkling cold clear and clean
Lazy pouting gasping trout
Suddenly turn and try to kiss the sky
As a flock of flapping crows
With raucous calls pass by
.
A harsh unforgiving land
Weather beaten unrefined
Rugged beauty upon sodden earth
On which it defiantly stands
Under temperamental moody
Ominous varied darkened sky’s
Capturing many a heart
And pleasing the eye.

what's stirring more
this wind
wresting leaves
or my mind
wallowing
in thoughts
of you
i find myself
entranced
within
this amber sway
adrift
like leaves
dancing
through dreams
wondering
if i were to fall
would you
pick me up
caress me
hold me
tight
or leave me
tumble
bloodied
ashamed
to crumble

once upon a time
a wedding day handkerchief
with lovely white lace
an old garter belt
borrowed and fastened on thigh
a groom with blue eyes
a nosegay bouquet
tucked in baby’s breath
fastened with ribbon
the bride’s train so long
ring bearer, flower girls ride
for a couple hours
then into the wind
with the groomsman by her side —
the unbridled bride

Sewing machine, long idle, gathered dust
Sitting like an old ghost, smothered in rust
Its humming sounds of stitches long gone
In a quiet pause, time spent looked upon
Cobwebs draped and shadows languish about
Each dust covered step through lost rooms speak out
The evening's hour has a date with the past
To light a candle, as long as it last
The years of war seemed like only yesterday
To come back angry so I stayed away
To look through the door where my parents wept
To find it empty, dust filled and windswept
Yesterday was then and now it will hide
Emotional debris caused life to divide
To return to a house barren and stark
The candle sputters, spent, and all was dark
