Daliah garlands 
around strands
of your sunkissed hair 

Bathing in my chest 
swallows made their nest

as we stare across 
the waters of perception

The land sizzles.
Brittle grass
yellows the hills.
Live oak draw sparse circles
of shade.
Spiky shrubs
cling to the parched slopes:
red stemmed manzanita,
spiny scrub oak.
Hot wind rustles the leaves.
The chaparral holds its breath,
waits for the spark,
to burst into blaze.

Later,
in the ash covered ground
under charred trees,
seeds waken and stir.

the sun through
the window pane
heats my cold

darkness. Horror
haunts me when
my eyes close
from haunting
memories of you.
My sheets are
of rose red

a heart
pumping it's excess
through bloody

run from you

my bed and lay
in it too as

But the road on which she walked
