huge hullabaloo in angel town
A jumbo jet has landed upside down
Where is the queen? We asked. Bring the crown!
She arrived minutes later, in a gold brocade gown.
Who landed this plane? She asked with a frown.
I did, said the handsome pilot, Jack T. Brown
Were any hurt? Did any get lost or drown?
Of course not, he stated. I am not a clown!
To the queen of my heart, I hereby decree
That I'll be the best man I can be.
I promise to give you a long, juicy kiss
And a humongous hug to the woman I miss.
I'll cook your favorite meal, help you with the chores,
Buy you things from the 99 Cent Store;
Comfort you when things go wrong,
Serenade you with a beautiful song;
Be there for you every day and night,
And let our romantic fantasies take flight.
I'm so happy that you're my soulmate;
My everlasting love for you won't let me wait.
Ever since the first day we met,
My heart soared like a jumbo jet.
I'd give you the world if you were mine.
What do you say? Will you be my Valentine?
A tropical vacation that I never shall forget
The clearest cleanest ocean that I’ve ever seen as yet
I dabbled in a rock pool with a bamboo handled net
I told my wife, “It’s just for fun, to see what I might get.”
She said, “I know you all too well, you’re looking for a pet,
But look around, there’s no one here - you’ll never find a vet.
So go check out that ocean blue and get your Speedos wet,
I’ve never seen you swim a stroke; not since the day we met.”
I couldn’t let her know why I broke out in such a sweat
The fact I never learnt to swim is something I regret
But I was loathe to let my children’s mother see me fret
And so I said, “I think instead, I’ll have a cigarette.”
How soon we stepped on British tarmac from our Jumbo Jet
My wife waved to our eldest son who’d brought his red corvette
She handed him a ten pound note and said, “That clears my debt,
You’re right, your father cannot swim: I guess you won the bet.”
So I got lights on the hills in my view tonight.
Glistening little lights from this window of mine on high.
I can see the movement of vehicles on the motorway.
Beyond that moving line my hills disappear over the way.
So I got lights on hills in villages I can see.
It’s quite magical to watch, it’s quite magical to me.
I can hear the train before I see it snaking lower down.
Follow a car on the motorway until it gets behind a hill and then appears higher up on the other side of town.
So I got lights on hills out towards the Peaks tonight.
A light flickers in the sky as a jumbo jet silently goes by.
I can hear the drumming scratching of the engines three/four miles away.
See a car on the criss-crossing country roads behind the motorway.
The panorama from this window covers at least twenty miles I think I’d say.
So I got lights on hills and dark areas where no lights there are to see.
If I lean out of the window Emley Moor and Barnsley football ground are the furthest I can see.
But I love this view as it flickers so gently. It’s relaxing and beautiful to watch, it’s relaxing and beautiful to me.

It all started with a bet
Inside a launderette
Over a cigarette
With a brunette
I hadn’t yet met
Her name was Marie-Antoinette
As she said it she did a pirouette
And wow what a silhouette
Coquette she wore an amulet
Feared nothing short of a bayonet
Forgot the laundry it was still wet
I got hungry and craved an omelet
Asked M-A to join me in my Corvette
Drove to the closest luncheonette
Ordered baguette and anisette
We talked right until the sun set
She showed me a statuette
She dreamt of a trip to Tibet
So we jumped on a jumbo jet
Me her and the rest of the jetset
Across the aisle was the oddest duet
He played the clarinet she the castanet
While Marie-Antoinette rhymed the alphabet
Dancing and waving with a serviette
Try and imagine this strange vignette
Marie-Antoinette Marie-Antoinette
Forever in her debt
Not so easy to forget
I only have one regret
I left Marie-Antoinette back in Tibet

You were an attractive
vision standing there
With your broad shoulders,
tall, with ebony hair.
I felt love's enchanting
spark when we first met.
It was a long flight
upon a jumbo jet.
Our conversation extended
through the night.
We both felt the magic
of love at first sight.
On our first date it was
as if déjà vu
In another lifetime
I had spent with you.
We knew so soon I was yours
and you were mine.
Near forty years and
you're still my Valentine!

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!
I've traversed this wondrous world
Captured through the windows of bird's eyes,
Enclosed within a body with silver wings,
So blessed I've been to fly the friendly skies.

Farewell to United's 747 Jumbo Jet
https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=Zm62JOOmc6k
Dining alone though the restaurant’s crowded,
Nothing created has filled empty chair,
Friend was expected, arrival now doubted,
No chance to call her, my phone needs repair.
Nothing’s a space that sometimes provides nothing,
Creator’s spirit is absent of late,
Jumbo jet passing is carrying something,
Air has more substance it seems than my date.
Dinner alone though’s not always disaster,
Chance of my screwing up future is past,
New poem lives now because it bypassed her,
Words on a page with a chance they might last!

When I Grow Up.
When I grow up I'm going to be the very best that I can be.
A Pilot in a Jumbo Jet, or a ships Captain on the high sea.
An Astronaut, a Fireman, or a Policeman who upholds the Law.
A Lumberjack who cuts down trees with an electric saw.
I might like to be a Doctor or a Nurse who make the sick well.
But I'm only young and may change my mind, I don't know yet.
Only time will tell.
I'll have to study and work hard
and do my best at school each day.
But I've got time at six years old
so I'm going out to play.
If I were an elephant I’d fly to safety in a jumbo jet
I’d visit my mum in a zoo, as she lives in darkest Tibet
I’d have to pack up my belongings in an enormous trunk
If there are beds on the plane I’d sleep in the top bunk
On second thought, that’s not such a sensible idea
My huge tummy gets queasy, I could shoot from my rear!
Aircraft seats are tiny and couldn’t fit my enormous tush
To be honest I prefer to stay in my habitat in the African bush
But sadly it’s no longer safe for me to remain in my home
Man is after my ivory tusks, across the plains they roam
Many of my relations have died at their murdering hands
It’s such a tragedy we can’t be secure in our homelands
So if I were an elephant I’d want to be left in peace
For my habitat to be safe and for all killing to cease
If I were an Elephant Contest
