Valentine

You were an attractive 
     vision standing there
With your broad shoulders,
     tall, with ebony hair.

I felt love's enchanting 
     spark when we first met.
It was a long flight
     upon a jumbo jet.

Our conversation extended
     through the night.
We both felt the magic
     of love at first sight.

On our first date it was
     as if déjà vu 
In another lifetime
     I had spent with you.

 We knew so soon I was yours 
     and you were mine.
Near forty years and 
     you're still my Valentine!

I'm grateful for my own 'near forty years' and happy to celebrate with you your own long-term love. Congrats on your win! My husband bought me a set of earrings and a matching necklace which was unexpected this year. I was happiest because he put some thought into it. I gave him this poem in a card, but he remembered he had received it before. He likes to be the giver which has been difficult for me because we are both givers.
