Sometimes we stare
Into the eyes
Of oncoming cars
Merely for the thrill of it,
To pretend as they do in stories
That the good hero darts away
Just in time,
While the evil villain is crushed
Beneath the vehicle, blood on his lips.
We wait
Until the last possible moment
Pulling back
To understand
Which role we play.
To live non-affirming
to live not at all
To hide in the shadows
and creep down the hall
To live uncommitted
new doubts to contend
All time intermittent
repressed till the end
To live without friendship
alone on the rock
A wandering echo
reflections that mock
To live undecided
with doubt your best friend
a future derided
—the present pretend

Too far from the mojo
—too close to the fire

dusk’s love-locked braces —
dad resounds shooting antler
off bucks to detach

You heard me complain about this and that
Today I glorify in being at the Food Chain's top
Neither sacred bulls, cows, or holy hen are safe
From my predation; they are prey, my target
Until one summer, brother Mosquito terrorized me
Maybe it is Sister Mosquite? Female mosquitos bite -
Not the males, who may not need my blood for larvae
Finally falling asleep, then zweee-zweee in power and might
I swat this way and that, they just bide their time
As I settle back, they go for my ears: ZWee-Zweee
LORD, why am I a victim, In my sleep, beside!
I get up, turn on the light, they are out of sight
But no, at the back of my head, the cowards!
The mosquito rarely comes face-to-face
After my nocturnal research notes, this is fact:
Mosquito will come at you belly level, not high
After reluctant research of this sort and dubious expertise
I invested in an insecticide. Yes, now Zwee-Zweeing
Will be followed by a blast into the past, me dancing
Into the wee hours. One down. Other nights: 5 and counting
The deer shake off the headlights
We sat in the car outside the
liquor store peering like deer, our eyes
following Pinky as she went in to
the store for a twelve pack of beer.
Our breathing stops. She's carded. Shucks.
Fake card works. Yes! Pinky time. She
sashays back, with beer and condoms, smiling.

Note-Kwansaba 7 sentences/lines containing 7 words in each?
You may have found some love, you may have found some peace?
Do you remember when that didn't matter?
Do you remember what you did to me?
You may find joy and happiness in your baby daughters beautiful blue eyes?
Do you remember the speed and broken bones?
Do you recall your words of lies?
You may have forgiven yourself for breaking so many lives?
Do you even remember killing me, so drunk behind headlights?
Do you remember my face, my dead body,
or did the drink just numb your mind?
Sadness of my soul
Joy emerges from my heart
My mind uncertain
Buzz buzz purr purr
You think it’s all for you
Rub my ears and scratch my fur
It’s better than a zoo
You think it’s all for you
When I bring in a mouse
It’s better than a zoo
This living in your house
When I bring in mouse
You made me rip your shirt
I’m living in your house
I really was quite hurt
You made me rip your shirt
When you jumped up to shriek
I really was quite hurt
You sounded like a freak
When you jumped up to shriek
My claws hung in your blouse
You sounded like a freak
But I’m not gonna grouse
My claws hung in your blouse
So now it’s on the floor
But I’m not gonna grouse
‘cause really I’m not sore
So now it’s on the floor
Your breasts they are laid bare
I really am not sore
I find like it here
Your breasts they are laid bare
Rub my ears and scratch my fur
I find like it here
Buzz buzz purr purr
Headlights
I’m heading home now to see my Wife;
I’m gonna kiss her and hold her tight.
Because I think she is so wonderful;
My love I love you.
You are so beautiful.
Driving home on a winters night;
All I’m seeing are those damn headlights.
Those blinding lights, those bright, bright lights;
Those killer lights, have taken my life.
