sludgy footprints

Down in sludgy footprints
ants built their colonies
once mud has hardened
& cracks go further
in the ground like
explorers in lost caves.
There's mystery
under-ground
deepest seas.....
turbulent waves
will prevent
the findings
of ancient
cities,
like the tunnels
under our feet.

rose up
through dark sea

light created world
pyramid is stairway
pharaohs climb to join stars

She Shuffled the Stars

We have seen you before, Seeker—
in the candlelit corners of a thousand lifetimes,
eyes heavy with questions,
hands trembling with the weight of tomorrow.

Maya sat before you,
her kitchen dressed in black,
as if the walls themselves were keeping secrets.
Steam rose from coffee cups like incense,
and between sips, she touched the deck—

pretend it was me and not you
in love. Cupid put down his arrows,
they were aimless, anyhow -
he sees that now.         still,

there’s a beauty and a cutie
so Cupid decides to shoot
his mouth off. the couple turns,
a miss…what is this…what is this…

each off their rockers, rocking away
from dusk

Teen Love

They sat on a bench
Their hands nearly quenched
The love that they shared
The feelings they carried
Love in their teens
Just not seen
They grew a lot older
They reunited again.

Steps

Another season in life
A time of activation
Celebration, rejuvenation
In due time
Unwind, renewal of mind
Enjoying the sunshine.

Steps in another direction
Steps for better
Steps seriously taken
Steps not forsaken. 

Lazy Evening on my Porch with My Dogs

the evening is alive with promise
dogs lie on their porch, loving the breeze
chimes are tinkling in a happy manner
there are two sounds – the air conditioner and crickets

the wind picks up strength; leaves rustle
one dog’s head comes up; he gulps some wind
in the distance a dog barks. My two dogs are on their feet.

Trusting His Smile

it was a bright pretty happy day
Joy had always been excited about life
she was from a small town
seventeen years old, in her happy element

She was from the kind of a town where people take care of each other
her bicycle chain broke on a country road
a nice-looking man in a blue pickup truck smiled at her

wolf eyes

majestic dog gave me wolf eyes
amber yellow, intense, fierce
showing me his carnivore self
I would have been intimidated
if he had been a stranger

Jealous of a Gliding Raptor

saw a raptor glide down today
toward the tree line of my forest
I wondered at his purpose
was he hunting or merely loving life?
I marveled at his glide
wishing it had been my own

sexy entertainers

the tent was on fire with enthusiasm
men’s imaginations inflamed by the sexy entertainers
I was incredibly proud of my mother the lead dancer
and her sister, Aunt Liv, the choreographer

let us be alone

my mouth salivated upon sight of the delectable cream puff
I could almost taste the frothy sweet fillings and the flaky crusts
let us be alone I told the rest of them picking up a spoon

Relieved but Angry

I knew I was dying as I drove myself across town to the hospital
I was gasping for breath; my lungs were closing fast like concrete
I did not expect to make it; I was leaving a fourteen-year-old daughter.
I felt sad about this, because she was home alone.

Miraculously, I reached the hospital and lumbered toward emergency.
I thought

loving words

words can be snazzy, sparkly and fun
they can uplift and enlighten
they can hurt and destroy

they can turn into party animals
wearing colorful ensembles
they can entertain and entice

words are more versatile than anyone else I have ever met
maybe that is why I love them more than most people
but certainly not more than I love my dogs

I Could But I Wont

I kept the coulds
threw away the shoulds
reserving the won’ts in a special spot
plucking them out one by one
amusing myself
happily adding them to my coulds
I could but I won’t.
