Premium Member Make it not your mate

Make not hate your mate;
Don't go with it on a date.
It’s indeed a very bad trait!

Allow it not to kill your discretion;
It badly injures your impression.
Doubt not, it halts your progression!

Sow not this deadly seed in your mind;
In each and every one, faults it does find.
And imports headaches of every kind!

It’s against all good instruction;
Its ill effects need no introduction.
Its result is nothing but destruction!

The wars of the past, we have as samples!
The ongoing wars are its live examples!!

Premium Member Examples of understatement

What if the orbiting earth were to unexpectedly run into a brick wall
speeding through the galaxy one night in the middle of Fall?
Can you imagine the sounds of death, destruction, and annihilation
as Christchurch, New Zealand, crashes into the Atlanta Metro bus station?
I don’t think that that would be any fun at all!

Premium Member cat astrophes

The pre-dawn rang
as cat choirs sang
in waring gangs
sharp and rank
before they sprang
with claw and fang.

Isn’t it an overweening piety
to think that diverse cat societies
would address conflicts more politely
observe more cultural propriety
and politic more peacefully and quietly
than our own species, which behaves violently

Are we not, in part, their masters?
Don’t we war for goals we’re after?
Aren’t some of our leaders practically gangsters?

Does any species author more disasters?
Humans are - frankly - alpha-predator bastards.

If the language of cats, we could unscramble,
and into their feral dialogs we could wrangle,
perhaps we’d see that they’re just following our example.

The Five Ws and the H

TYPE OF POETRY: DIDACTIC

THE FIVE Ws AND ONE H
The WHO of the Bible is Christ Jesus,
Our Creator and our Redeemer.
The WHAT of the Bible
Is to lets us know
What our life
Is really about,
Or is meant to be about.
The WHY of the Bible
Tells us why it was written.
The WHEN of the Bible
 Starts with beginnings,
The future ending,
And everything between.
The HOW of the Bible
Gives us parables, pictures,
Examples, and precepts--
To view, study, heed,
Encourage, and obey.
The WHERE of the Bible
Is to help us learn enough
To make wise decisions,
For a joyful, everlasting future.

Great Examples

GREAT EXAMPLES

We all need great examples we can look to today:
The ones who know their Bible and who know how to pray.
The ones we can look up to with great respect and love
Because they live for Jesus and look to God above.
The ones that we can talk with about our trials in life
And see the care they give us when we go through its strife.
The ones we can depend on when we may have a need
To give what help they can then, and not possessed with greed.
The ones you trust with secrets that you don’t want spread around
And not hold them against you when they from you are found.
In seven decades living, I’ve known so many here
Who are such great examples of God they love and fear.
I want to be more like them because I need to be
Another great example for other folks to see.
If YOU’RE a great example, remember this today:
That others want to know you and share with them your way.
Remember, your example can be good or be bad;
If you’re a GOOD example, it’s the best that can be had!

Examples That Are Shining

Examples That Are Shining

Contributed and motivated
by Word Warrior as usual.

While each word was beating up and walloping
God came into my life and had been galloping
Said before each of my poems He would trample
Should be using Poetry Soup as a perfect example.

God's words against I never should be warring
And always resisting and continually deploring
His courage and bravery is sure to wait for you
Even when writing many poems of just a few.

God's knowledge into should constantly delve
Amount of poetry books became complete shelve
Out of all this what was the most extraordinary
All of them weighed so much and could not carry.

Then after all of my poetry writing had ended
On them, many poets at Soup still depended
And instead of complaining and always whining
See poems as examples that love to be shining.
(PS. Wheel chairs go best when declining.)

Examples of Attempted Compromise

okay,
i will talk about flowers
if you will talk about togetherness
okay,
i will walk beside you
if you will agree to slow down
okay,
you can have your freshly brewed coffee
if you can accept my concentrated orange juice
okay,
i will check out the abstract art of you
if you will look at the iridescent paint splotches of me
okay,
i will just tell you that i love you as you love me
if you can accept that and kiss me in that 'you' way
okay,
i will get in touch with my sensitive side
if you will freely admit that you too have flaws
okay,
i will meet you at a busy interesction
if you are willing to join me on a one way street
okay,
i will gladly go with you in the exact same direction
if you will finally conclude this crap so we can get something to eat!

Premium Member Sisterly Examples

When I was young, I had a great disdain
for Campell's nasty soup named Alphabet.
One Saturday it was our mother's threat
we had to eat it up or home remain
and miss the matinee. How inhumane!
Mom left the room; I never will forget
the thing which I'd repeat without regret -
I took that slop and tossed it down the drain!

When Mom returned, I'd "downed" all of my soup.
Again she left; Mel went to dump HER meal
and at the sink got caught. Poor nincompoop!
She missed "Red Riding Hood" while I, the heel,
went out. Our mom was left "out of the loop."
My little sister did not even squeal!

(Some slang words here for my non-native friends:
a "nincompoop" is a foolish person,
"out of the loop" means to never be aware of something
and the last verb "squeal" means to "tell on someone"
I always tried to get away with murder when I was young
and I can't believe my sister missed the movie by not telling
on me! On the other hand, I really enjoyed "Red Riding Hood" heehee)
