Warmer than the summer sun 
Softer than the breeze 
Sweeter than a rose in bloom
My mother’s all of these’s . 

My mother always stood by me 
Throughout my childhood years 
She would always be around me 
If I would shed a tear. 

She would always pick me up 
No matter when I fall

my mommys love was a loves room I knocked until my Knuckles bruised.

Tribute to Mom and Dad

You've walked a long walk
It's now time to sit back
The journey was tough;
Thorns and thistles laid bare,
Your foot bleed and crack;
Scorned on all sides
But you heed them no more.
Sorrows, heartache etched
Within you, broken and shattered 
Are your hearts but you've built
A home; of love and wisdom for us.

my elegy-
my muse covered in death
my wistful cry for help
innocence in her eyes

8th of november, when moon turned red

  It's been almost Nine months since you left us

Sleep Well, Mama

Mama, why is it that you can't sleep well?
What's keeping you up even though you're tired?
Your husband who watches television half the day,
Your adult child who is packing up and moving away,
Your young, hyperactive child who likes to play, play, play,
The ever present clutter all throughout the house,

what was I supposed to do

She didn't believe me

I tried all the ways to get you to stay
porch night calls
Mom said no
to get them to see
that you needed help-
more than leaning on me

Just a joke you said
that your brother would tie you to

with arms wide open

imagine
if I was harmless
from the hurt
that lives
deep down
but shallow 
in my stomach
that is to big
for my bones to carry

imagine if I was
littler
than the girl
who told me that
she would rather die
than live in my arms
once more

home
that I long
to be free from
but not redeeming 
enough
to pick up my stuff and leave

Taking Care of Momma

Time has went by and now we've switched roles
Having me at 16 and dealing with life's  blows
To me there was no problem you couldn't solve
Through my growing up you were always involved
Now you're getting older and i must take care of you
You've always had an independent point of view 
There's nothing wrong with me

My Mother Died

my mother died,
i was to die with her.
that was the pact, you see,
my dad & i made together.

while my mother died,
i never left her side;
over & over calling her name ,
hoping to send a spark to the flame.

but still my mother died.
now i'm naught but a shell;
because the day my mother died
i cursed my soul

To the mother they stole

To my mama they stole,

I dont blame you for what was done
You sacrificed your life for my childhood
You fought for my right of innocence 
You spoke so I could have freedom

It's not your fault
You were just born black
I'm not old enough to understand why
But i do understand your love
I feel it even in your absence

The Knife Behind My Back

Everything I do is for you forever and always not because I love you but because I'm constantly walking on eggshells waiting for the other shoe to drop just for you.

A Busy Mom

Every day is Mother’s Day
we clean, we cook, we sew,
costumes, for kids dress up play
then out to sport we go.
Cricket, swimming, basketball,
gymnastics, ballet too,
soothe away their tummy aches
as mums, that’s what we do.
Get up early, pack their lunch
then send them to their schools,
spick and span with polished shoes
to ensure they learn the rules.
Make their beds,

You say you hate him but you won’t escape him. You give me anxiety that I can not flee, you create toxicity and you let it capture me all so he can thrive.
