Double Meaning Poems | Examples

Premium Member unintended innuendo

As a slip of tongue whip-lashed a pun,
The hurt begun, could not be undone.
The room hushed, smiles withdrew,
As sarcastic pathos turned its screw.

A simple phrase — at first glace plain,
Was en-wrapped in a double-meaning chain,
It landed soft, then bit deep to crush.
Its brush on cheeks, drew a crimson flush.

Though we laughed at the unintended.
The joke offended, the defiled lay un-mended.
With any apology and explanation upended,
By what was clearly needlessly intended.

Your smile and laughter were betrayed
By eyes that glanced away and strayed
To look down, downcast at the ground.
The joy, once flowing to astound, drowned.

Is this a poem? -- I'd say so!
Near my home, convenient, clean
and comfy. Very low prices.
Varied delicious specials.
Slogans artistically painted
in strategically located spots --
poetic samples of our regional
colorful cuisine and culture:
"I like my cafecito with a little chisme"
(I like my coffee with a little gossip);
"Y la dieta?" (And the diet?)
and near the register, another:
"Hay que empezar el dia con
         HUEVOS,*
frijoles, chilaquiles, y cafe"
(You have to start the day with
         EGGS,
beans, chilaquiles, and coffee).
At the exit, beside the door:
"Si acabas de llegar bienvenidos,
y si ya se vas vuelve pronto"
(If you have just arrived welcome,
and if you are already going
come back soon!)
An important part of home.
At this location since 1984.
Friendly and familiar.
Puro poesia. Pure poetry.

*"con huevos", here has double meaning

Concerted Blabbering

Gone to far now
gotta look ahead
like what I'm hearing
like what you said
it's concerning too
maybe thats to far a head
Ijust remember
She said
"Did I bring that up
why you telling me this
fix it yourself
I have no time for this"

" I think you just made that up
tryna be real cute
you are the joke
in this dispute"

From Dirty Joke Monday
a Movie about a Comedy

No matter what it is
it's a comedy to someone
things unexplained
People playing games
No matter what it is

She laughed at me
said I was a clown
One who'll wear a frown
cause she would no
where else around

She laughed at me
Gave double meaning to everything
Made me feel like a King
Just to make a clown of me
Send in the Clowns
make me smile for a while
send in the clown
make me smile a while
She laughed at me
to deperate her facts from fiction
made a joke of me
in every depiction
It's always me
what's going on

beverage

Twist off the cap
Lay it in your lap
I'm your favourite beverage
Take a sip of your leverage
I give catering a double meaning
Leave the flavours of my heart overweening

Soft or alcoholic
Was your love for me hyperbolic
Do I leave you dreary in the streets
Every step your awareness depletes
Or do you look forward to tasting me again
No longer a recipient of your disdain

Palms

I trace the little rivulets
That, by the year, expand
That I may follow in their course
My life through my hands

That I hold a lifelong snowflake dear
That I might understand
The hardships of their rugged task
No others could have manned

Take pride in these graceful tools
That work the clay and sand
Wrinkle the old leaves folded in prayer
And the rivers dry up from the land.

Lost In Paradise

You speak ambiguous as if a metaphor with a double meaning,
creating sights and sounds closely matching yet differently.
As if a the sun were in your smile or a fire burning in your soul,
our love is a match that has been struck upon the flint of our hearts.

With eyes reaching deeply into my core as if passing through,
the earth mantel with hot lava flowing and building into a volcanic explosion.
This timeless clock makes our life spin by as our earths are turning,
creating a violent storm with ocean waves feeling your yearning.

You have cast a reel connect to a spell, bated it with love and hooked me,
placing your sails upon me, guiding me with a rudder, steering me with love.
I was overboard and you threw me your lifesaving circle around me,
landing on our tropical paradise as you guide me with your tender love.

As the coastguard fly’s over our signal fire is seen loud and clear,
everyone will know you have saved me from this life of loneliness.
Giving me strength to go on no longer lost with emptiness or forgone
Completing this circle of life and meeting in the middle then connecting

Our hearts and souls

Paradise

Earth is not like heaven at all
No meaning, no environment,
Every second screams: "Kill!"
And enters the arms race.

There is a war going on here and there,
And people hit each other hard,
Why is the war a mystery,
And it's not supposed to be related to oil…

Every new law is a fraud.
It has a double meaning,
It hides a thick fog,
And its purpose is unclear.

People like to distort everything
Religion, love, morality,
They don't want to respect anyone
Their money attracts the distance.

We will never be equal,
Even if you work hard.
We always bear a share of the blame,
Therefore, we are not consciously equal.

Knowing all the perverse values,
And knowing the abomination under the cross,
How can you say for sure,
What planet is this-a Paradise home?

Observations of a Broken Heart

I’ve never loved like you before
Never put up some many walls
I see the wisdom in the action
Know the pain you’ll never feel
Because you’re using caution
And time has become your friend

I’ve never loved like you before
With your smiles and your glances
Your hidden words with double meaning
Your quiet, shy romances
You don’t confess until you know
And time must play his part

I’ve never loved like you before
With trust and friendship deep
A relationship before the lust
A bond stronger than the beat
Beat, Beat, Beat of my blood
Coursing through my veins

I’ve never loved like you before
I’ve watched. I see. I know.
That there is something special there
You’re more different than you know.
I want to hold you in my arms,
To love and not let go,

But you love like no other before
So I must wait and grow
Becoming friends with time myself
I’ll learn how I must wait
Time will show me what it means to love
For a love that won’t abate

Double-Entendre

double-entendre
double-meaning
insinuations
full of suggestive
vagueness
scattered ambiguity
sprinkled through out
obscurity of inconclusiveness
of train of thought
creating the lore of lies
of a future together as one
within a land of make believe
that one is trying to create within
the mind

A Funny One Liner In a Rude Idiom

Replenish

Replenish* my heart
with unquenchable coals.
Make it burn so hot
So I'm unable to control
The fire burning from deep in my soul.

When it seems to die
I ask You to try
And replenish* my heart
With unquenchable coals.

Note*: the word replenish has a double meaning. "To fill" and to "refill."

JAN HAS A FAN

Jan Has no Tan

I once saw a gal called Jan
So sexy she made me ran
Straight to the vicar
Said marry us quicker
Whilst she drank her tea on the can

She is as White as pure Sand

I once met a gal in white dress
I fell straight in love I must confess
She was drinking her tea
While I stared at her knee
Surely my intentions she guessed

She Sips Her Tea Daily

I once met a gal drinking Tea
My heart was pumping in glee
From her nose to her toes
When she smiled I froze
So charming I become a devotee

While I Admire Her so Gayly

When I saw the lady in the white dress
My thoughts she I did undress
As she gazed out the window
She caught peeking Jimbo
Who was in quite the state of distress

I am a fan of the great poet Jan

There once was a gal who could fart
She refined it into an art
Her white dress in a breeze
Would lift till you sneeze
But she’ll always be my sweetheart

Notes: I just realized the title, as far as Jan is concerned , well could have a double meaning!

Addict

I see you speaking,
your words misleading
I watch you closer
but hold you further.

Your double meaning and secret keeping,
my heart is aching, my soul is reaching.
It calls out to you, why don't you hear me?
They echo into, your arms deceiving.
I'll disconnect now, for a moment
but memories flood, I can't control it.

Our love is a poisin and it's deep within my veins
Our life is a mockery its driving me insane.
Our kiss is a catalyst to every horror show
that kiss is the only kiss that I have ever known

Ideals of my former self get lost within our sheets
I only feel the beauty and I can't control the beast.

Together we did, conquer sorrow, but it was fleeting, gone tomorrow.
Goodbye my lover, goodbye my brother, i know we've learned from one another.
Lessons felt and rediscovered, goodbye my lover, goodbye my brother.

Ahhh, Those Sexy Southern Gals

A write for such a very fine night
echoes drifted in as day lost light
Whispers of former days with sweet gals
partying with my old longtime pals!

Thoughts of future days so far away
living each minute no thought to pay
Life, love and fortune always to be had
we that raced about quite crazy and bad!

Thrills of love lost in it's sad stings
pretty gals angling for a wedding ring
Memories of so many pretty eyes and faces
sexy girls, sexy legs and pretty laces!

Wild were the times of we Southern boys
gone are the days of guns, cars and those sweet ,fast toys....

Robert J. Lindley 07-15-2014

A wild youth remembered by a now very settled old man...
note: "toys" has a double meaning..
