Indian summer
the nuzzle of a fawn
as I doze

She stands, not defiantly
not with threats of maim.
She has trust and curiosity
as any babe would have.
She captured my heart
for one split second in time.
Then she was gone.

I was at my place upstate which has about six acres enclosed with a six foot chain link fence.  One lazy day I was sitting on the ground in the back yard soaking up the sun on an unusually warm spring day.  I felt something licking me behind my ear and knew it was not one of the cats with their rough tongue.  I very slowly opened my eyes and it was a small female deer, not quite grown but almost.  I suspected it to belong to my neighbor but have never found out for sure, and I have seen many outside of my fence.  She sensed my awareness and backed away just as if to say, "Well, it has been a nice visit, but now it is time to go," because she leaped twice and cleared the chain link fence some sixty feet away.  Have any you had a moving experience like this, with nature that you would like to tell about?
