Very Strict Haiku Update - Charles Henderson's Blog

Never would I have thought I would start writing at 73 years of age. I have thoroughly enjoyed my voyage into the written spirituality of poetry and am thankful for the opportunity.  In my seven years here I have met many new and wonderful persons. Having them accept me as a friend has been a moving experience.
                   

     

Very Strict Haiku Update

I now have 17 poems and 10 of them do not have the season word also written in the area where your name and name of contest is.  Some of the 10 poems do have season words.

This is so I know that you intentionally wrote the word into the poem as a season word.  I do not want to credit someone for having one in their poem by accident. Too many folks work very hard to get that special word.



Please check your poem for the season word and put it beneath the poem where your name is. Please label "season word" so I can find easily.

I can find the words, but there are lists and lists and they are hard for me to understand which words are which. Maybe I am looking at the wrong lists. I don't know but it seems like a lot of work sorting to find something that fits my region.

Andi, I just checked the link and it still works fine. you press Alt on the key board and while holding it, click on the link. The page will come up and the simplist way is to just scroll all the way down to the alphabetical list of the season words.

Charles, I find that link you gave us to be very confusing. I can't understand really how it works. We all know what nature and seasonal words are. Why must we use ones specifically on that list? For example, in north america are found lists for Florida, chesapeake bay, canada, prairie states, etc, but nothing for my area of the country. So if I'm to do a haiku based on an actual thing I saw recently, how do i know what kijo word to use that appears on this list ? It would take me forever to view all the different words over there. Can I just ask you in a soupmail? Would I then be able to get the 15 points? Just some questions I am having!

one word? No, Chris, I just thumbed through my small almanac and found these couple of cute ones. "cat in love stance"(early spring)and"cat's one-sided longing" (early spring) What most people do not understand: myself included at one time, is that it is much easier to do a poem suited for a season word than it is to find a season word for one already written. I just bought my first two kigo almanacs. Are by Higgenson, a small handbook and a larger paperback. the only thing much larger about the large one was it price. Very rare. should sell for about 40$ new but that is the used price now. I do not like buying used books and mine was 85. I had a bad experience with used book buying in the past. i believe I bought the last one that my particular dealer had. There are more out and you could get lucky and get one for 45 or so, but I got tired of looking.
