                                            halcyon, luxurious
                                       elating, inspiring, cheering

                                       worrying, depressing, startling
                                              arduous, laborious
                                                    workdays

Premium MemberWe Are the Face of America

This great land, a new chance
   A love affair, pure romance
Our hearts and minds open wide
   Purpose in our every stride

We are the face of America
   Immigrants from everywhere
Our shoulders strong, our workdays long
This nation's dream we proudly share

Tgif

Weekdays are when most folks work,
With weekends set for rest
And so their spirits start to perk
As workdays have progressed.

When Friday rolls around, there's joy
And also some relief
That finally, at last, oh boy!
From work, they can debrief.

It's strange, but even once retired,
Fridays still rank high.
Though work-type stresses have expired,
All good thoughts apply.

For me, there is an added plus -
It's babysitting day.
Explaining is superfluous
If grandkids come your way.

Premium MemberWiping Away Six Months of Workdays

I needed that warm,
crystal tulip of wine
to wash away
the knot in my innermost…

wiping away, like a priest
or a bartender cleanses a glass,
moving me somewhere over the rainbow

loosening the ache of shoulders
and the nerves from my stomach

wiping away six months of work days,
I am beginning to feel like my real self

again. laughing with family over
silly things. we sit around a round
carousel of a table, cherishing.

i’ve not had to set my alarm
and pry my eyes open
for days.

that lovely vine did the trick,
loosening the vapid grapes,
cleansing the windows of me.

and i know i’ll cherish
soon a mimosa
with my daughter-in-law

cheers to a couple
relaxing weeks

even if i must work hard
replacing tit for tat
‘tis a break

from all of that…

Premium MemberGraze In Daze

Short weekends and long weekdays
School’s out then it’s onto résumés and workdays
Mondays dragging on through to Fridays
Long commutes on highways, subways and tramways
Toiling for okays, some praise and hopefully a raise

Soirees and negligees for Saturdays
Aspiring to bouquets so enchanting in a vase
Before you know it’s on for matinees on Sundays
Enjoying soufflés, sorbets, sundaes and parfaits
Eyeing the calendar for paydays
As well as birthdays, holidays and getaways

But nowadays, as retirees, we have our days
And often we just graze in haze almost a daze
Where Tuesdays look no different than Thursdays
To paraphrase it’s our final phase when interplays
In many ways the sweet nostalgia of yesterdays

A Pick Me Up

On workdays more often than not
I'll have a small energy shot
Too stay alert
It doesn't hurt
To get a little boost like I got!

But when off no such drinks I'll see
They are replaced most instantly
Quick as a snap
I'll take a nap
And that's just mighty fine by me!

A Poem For My Quintessential Queen

what's a little bit of love from a big part of me
if it makes you smile for a while and you are digging my style
if i made your day better, then i will shower you with a love so unconditional
you make my day better everyday without even trying
open the home of your heart and let me show you how much it is appreciated
i will prepare your favorite dish....whatever it is that day
i will even attempt your favorite dessert
let's admire the view of the natural surroundings and converse until we lose the battle with sleep and nod off
as long as i am with you, the holiday will never end....even on workdays
i just want you to know each and everyday that you are appreciated
each morning i whisper a barely audible but exclamatory 'Thank You' in your ear
what you have come to mean to me is worth more than material beauty and the simple subject
your worth is what i admire and love about you most
please accept this plethora of love from little ole goofball me

Three Day Weekend

For those who work, a three day weekend
Feels like a reward,
The culmination of a goal
That they’ve been working toward.

It’s just one extra day and yet,
It feels like so much more,
A chance to catch up on the things
On workdays, they’d ignore.

But even for the unemployed
And, too, retirees,
A holiday on Monday
Somehow really seems to please.

So happy weekend, one and all;
Enjoy this little break.
Forgetting why the day is free, though,
Would be a mistake.

Premium MemberVacation Elation

I didn’t sleep a wink, that night; I never do at the beach.
The gentle surf, it calls to me in the night and for a swimsuit I reach.

How it stimulates my imagination and I dream, with open eyes;
of caverns, deep and dark, where I may find a wondrous surprise.

I chat philosophy, with dolphins and swim for miles, with whales;
the jellyfish, they light my way, as I ride, a manatee’s tail.

I race sea horses and dance with starfish, too.
I find a vibrant world, beneath the Caribbean blue.

When morning comes I’ll down some toast and juice;
I’ll run down to that silver surf and swim an hour or two.

With sunlight’s fingers upon my back; the breeze will dry my hair.
Shortly I will have to leave; it really isn’t fair.

Back at home, I’ll write and paint my adventures at the sea;
and daydream all my workdays; till there again, I’ll be.

Country Craziness

Getting rowdy--really loud
Hanging with your country crowd
Having fun with lots of laughter
Nothing seems to really matter
Watching sports and swigging bears
All your troubles disappear
Jukebox playing favorite songs
You can dance to all night long
Cowboy hats--Tight fitting jeans
This is such a sexy scene
Hearing yee-haw and y'all
In a southern country drawl
Dresses twirling on the floor
Dancing like never before
Bull riding and betting on
Who will fall off--just for fun
Red solo cups across the bar
Drunken voices yell yee-haw
Some workdays---every weekend
This enjoyment never ends
Through the warm, cold and hot weather
Family and friends get together
For some harmless fun that lasts
Always having such a blast

Premium MemberWhere Has Romance Gone

Where has romance gone, seems so far away,
Memories need to be brought back in sight,
The sultry nights with my black negligee,
Quiet dinners spent over candle light,
You’d call just to see if I was alright.
So turn off your phone and let’s reminisce,
Let’s talk about love and what we miss.

There are reasons why sparks begin to dim,
Long and hard workdays makes us short of time,
The children’s schedule is filled to the brim,
Oh the fun times when we were in our prime,
Now up past eleven, seems like a crime.
We’ll be more thoughtful, plan a weekly date,
Anything you want, just not out too late!
