Three Day Weekend

For those who work, a three day weekend
Feels like a reward,
The culmination of a goal
That they’ve been working toward.

It’s just one extra day and yet,
It feels like so much more,
A chance to catch up on the things
On workdays, they’d ignore.

But even for the unemployed
And, too, retirees,
A holiday on Monday
Somehow really seems to please.

So happy weekend, one and all;
Enjoy this little break.
Forgetting why the day is free, though,
Would be a mistake.

I came across a prestigious list of the top 100 most published poets here and I am not surprise. Your quality indeed goes hand in hand with your quantity. I'll check one or two more of your works because this has given me a unique satisfaction. I give you a handshake of a definite 7!

Most of the time we are so focused on getting that extra day off we do tend to forget the reason we have it off. I love your last two lines, Ilene. Memorial day is one day we should always remember. Great write! Love, Kim

Happy Memorial Day to you and yours - we should remember the meaning of the day. I went to a reform service tonight at The Village temple. Shabbat Shalom Matthew Anish
