Wiping Away Six Months of Workdays

I needed that warm,
crystal tulip of wine
to wash away
the knot in my innermost…

wiping away, like a priest
or a bartender cleanses a glass,
moving me somewhere over the rainbow

loosening the ache of shoulders
and the nerves from my stomach

wiping away six months of work days,
I am beginning to feel like my real self

again. laughing with family over
silly things. we sit around a round
carousel of a table, cherishing.

i’ve not had to set my alarm
and pry my eyes open
for days.

that lovely vine did the trick,
loosening the vapid grapes,
cleansing the windows of me.

and i know i’ll cherish
soon a mimosa
with my daughter-in-law

cheers to a couple
relaxing weeks

even if i must work hard
replacing tit for tat
‘tis a break

from all of that…

Thanks, Kim, for reading about "My Ageing Hand." There's little I can do to improve it, though; just have to endure it. I, too, enjoy wine, it's one of life's great pleasures, second only to thinking, and third to eating, and fourth to writing. Best to you. / M

Wonderful paean to the value of a vacation --- kicked off with the crystal tulip of wine. Imagism galore here, Kim. Two thumbs way up! ~ Happy Friday! ~ Gershon

We all need a break from time to time and the wine will sure help you to relax. Enjoy your break. Tom
