Winter
by Wayne Wysocki
A fellow who fractured his hip
Learned a valuable tip
If liquor you drink
At the ice skating rink
You're probably going to slip.
Watching the Winter Olympics from afar
I wish I were an ice-skating star
To soar and twirl, leap up to the sky ~
in empty indoor rinks in July
skater on moonlight
wearing diamonds, pearls in hair
fun in frosty air
moonbeams for sunbeams
darkly calm on frozen lake
glide softly as dreams
skater of starlight
feeling joy that comes from peace
hues stained black and white
On a cold ice bound day, a duck with her drake
Flew into land, upon an ice covered lake.
While ice skating seemed fun,
Round the ice they both spun.
Ducks on ice without brakes, soon get a headache.
1/ 10 / 2019.
Winter is when
The magic starts
The air is crisp and
Things are clearer
To the eyes and mind
The beauty of snow falling
Skiing down a slope
Ice skating on a frozen pond
The smile and laughter of people
Just having fun, that's
Winter magic!
My heart's sonata races screaming to a rhythm.
Fingers like drumsticks.
Lips frozen like a an ice-skating rink at Christmas.
Voice howling like deep bass.
Eyes black and white piano notes.
My body, the band, is an empty auditorium after the stage blew down in a storm.
I've built a fortress round my weary heart
which cannot be penetrated by your arrows and darts
the moat around it is frozen to its core
with a no ice skating sign hanging on my front door
your excuses are lame regarding your eminent domain
my drawbridge is now officially closed from all your pain

Naturing Winter
A rising star warms the cooling mist,
The shrill of a hawk apexes a crown,
A bevy of cooing plumages a winter,
A sun entertains a tarry of sparkling,
Icicles and a preserved lake shining,
Ice skating, ice fishing, acts of esse.

winter has frozen
earth's colors to bridal white
pregnant with rebirth
frozen eye of pond
curtain drawn on reflections
dreaming ice skating
the sun cracks cloud's shell
shining like egg yok in sky
dripping sparkling ice

Cold north winds freeze fields and rivers
snow drifts the roads to seal the town
Skin cracks inside ice covered gloves
Vick’s gets rubbed onto croupy chests
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s
warm fireplace surrounded by friends
ice skating, snowball fights, sleigh rides
hot chocolate, red noses and hugs

Fun
Skating on thin ice describes for some
that nice Deception--fun,
taunting the chill fathom
beneath the white skin.
Too much like spending
small change for me.
All that over-shoulder peeking
to be sure the depth's not there.
When one hard look would send
those enamel eyes
crashing through
a surprise of air.
ice skating was not his dear wife’s forte,
so he bought her membership for birthday,
she started with a skid and fall,
view of her crotch was free for all,
“ dear”, said he, “if you need nickers, please just say!”

Snow swirling
Like a flutter
Of love,
Softly falling
Kisses from heaven,
White Christmas,
Glowing
Ornaments
And lights
Strung around,
Frozen lake
Calls for ice skating,
Enjoy floating flurries
As
Snowflakes whirl and twirl.

Hot lick
Lick like honey kiss like journey
Hot like chocolate miss like

I skate
with date
not ready
unsteady
cling rail
would bail
afraid
my maid
would skate
He-mate
leave rail
act male
fall down
I frown
but she
helps me
cling arm
no harm
we skate
up late
let go
oh no!
spill cup
helps up
red face
no race
to rail
still male
take home
not nome
miss
kiss

Bam! Crash! Crack! The hippo went down.
A resounding loud noise in Ice Skating town.
Is the ice cracking? One of the owners cried.
Yes, another agreed, a snake has slithered inside.
I knew this was a lie for the snakes hibernate.
Keep going kids! I hollered. Go on and skate.
I helped the hippo get up and got him warm.
The rest of them left though, in a kind of swarm.
Locks of golden hair
Embrace her angelic face
Happiness all hers
Sadness not a trace.
She dances like the wind
Ice-skating is a breeze
What a talented child
She does it all with ease.
She has two loving parents
And little brother Vaughn
A dog, a cat, her own playhouse
What a wondrous life has dawned.
This adorable little girl
A picture of perfection
Her parents do adore
Their darling little Madison.
Form:
One Snowflake falls
Then follows all
Drifts blow and grow
Wallowing kids
Tomorrow skids
Next day a tow
Borrow warm hat
Sore elbows drat
Ice skating woes

06/12/20 extended version with rhyme
When the cold returns, with its flurry of white
And the large lake freezes with its thick ice,
I will also return to my ice skating years
Glide in the silence and twirl when I can
Cleanse myself with every breath of fresh air
Moving with crystal scenes surrounding me
Embracing winter’s glory, beneath the mountains
In a way that lifts my spirit to the heavens
Escape in calm peaceful silence, without a word

Skating upon Saturn's rings, on the outskirts of gold,
executing my double axel, in the brisk, season of cold.
The sole sound is of ice skates, spraying bits behind;
In rich, purple dusk, of the chaotic universe entwined.
A wide-eyed dreamer, in the red heartbeat of fantasy,
does slow twirls and excited spins, jumping uncannily!
Skating on concentric rings-the adventure of her life,
Stars shining all together, a hundred moons in the sky.
simple snowflake
drifting down
falling soft
on the ground
awaiting
a snowball
hard and round
snowman bound, or
winter white wonderland wishes
made with peaches and cream
fresh snow cream in dishes
ev’ry boy and girl’s dream
after ice skating meet
almost chilled to the bone
a special winter treat
in a caramel ripple cone

Carols chiming on the village green
Light snow adding to the atmosphere,
Bustling shoppers complete the scene
It’s easy to see the holiday is here,
With children laughing, anticipating
A midnight visit from jolly old St. Nick
In the park young folks are ice-skating,
So many activities, take your pick.
Sledding down a slope is my choice
Then, hot chocolate and a huge bonfire,
While happy carolers raise their voice
All tuckered out, I’m ready to retire.

If you want to fly, but are bound to ground,
Come twirl and swirl, go around and around,
Enjoying the flight other dreamers found.
Sash and shay while flying way fast or slow,
Keeping bladed skates soaring as you go.
Attach wings to your feet for fun you seek.
Take your time, flap your beat boldly or meek.
Inhale wonder then exhale your dance flight.
New frozen delight is but right in sight.
Go glide, sail and slice tight with air’s might.
