Inspiration

Somewhere between when sleep overtakes
and then when I'm not really awake
as if on a film running through my head
the reel unrolls a story unfolds
and I never lose the thread
tho' the plot may be somewhat bizarre
from whence I know not yet never forgot
I find words appear in my mind
from way over yonder out of the blue
and somehow in time I make them rhyme
they're fun for me a game to play with
hope reading them is the same for you

One Last Breath

Start it off with a tiny bit,
But not too much so you can quit.
Still in control with nothing but wonders,
While it watches you fall into a slumber.

Strapped up around your arm,
Feeling no pain, feeling no harm.
Safely sound as you may feel,
But trust me—this is not the deal.

Tension unrolls as your eyes go back,
Heaven appears just like a track.
Zoning hard with spinning eyes,
Feeling numb and tearless cries.

Jolly and joy are starting to turn,
I never would have thought I’d feel this yearn.
Truth be told, this was a mistake—
And I’m sorry to say, this isn’t fake.

Before I died, I wept, I cried,
Thinking of all the ways to stay alive.
Saying to myself, What did I do, and why
Couldn’t I see that this gift from hell has blinded me?

Feeling nothing but sorrow to those who cared,
The pain I caused, the weight they bear,
Having that said, it doesn’t compare.

Wishing I could take it back,
I say with one last breath:
Please don’t let this
Be the cause of your death.

my soul in foreign lands, forgotten 1

The map unrolls, a skin of dust
where landmarks shift like whispers lost to a gust.

I trace a fracture, jagged, unfamiliar...
place where my phantom feet wandered, chillier
than memory allows. A tongue they spoke is lost...

A melody unheard of, at dearly paid cost
within the crumbling walls of an infernal keep...

A cracked, blackened mirror shows a face
though the eyes hold echoes of a storm!

The history etched strangely warm
borrowed grief, a second skin I wear
conceals scars, wounds I cannot bear.

A raven calls from a bleached white tree
a language older than time, the bones of me.

Its shadow stretches, long n out of place
across a sun-blackened, desolate place.

In this dreamscape, my essence fled.

A testament of words better unsaid, unread!

Foreign soil clings, stubborn, dark embrace
reflecting back lost a vacant face.

In stillness, a faint whisper sighs
you search mirrored eyes
meaning n memories...

A land you left behind
names you can't recall or hide...

A journey destined to fall...further inward
strangest sights reside as I…

Dissolve upon the burning tide.

Schnauzer In Wonderland

Down a hole tumbles my dear schnauzer Sean
Chasing White Rabbit, oh no, you’re gone!
Now the kind Chesire Cat
Unrolls a welcome mat
As my friend joins a wonderous egg hunt at dawn

All mimsy are the borogroves, Sean howls out with joy
The guest of honor’s loved by every girl and boy
Eggs aglow, a heavenly hue
Every schnauzer’s dream come true!
I miss you pooch but have a good life and enjoy

Premium MemberThe hidden treasure

As the hail blows down snow mountain
falling white flakes a carpet unrolls
Warm tenderness
touching the heart
inside gentleness flutters
Within ice winds cutting deeply one smiles
Faith sings skipping
into joyous beats
so many good people embrace happiness
With tender loving care
Centre of gold
Innermost sanctuary
opening gates pearl drops
Universal beauty you are the salt of this earth
Holding forever temple colouring rainbows
with your divine purity
I pray always for grace
With it an angel appears
Adding wings to your heart
love is restored in a lasting kiss

Premium MemberTo Love, or Not to Love Perfected

“To love, or not to love?” that is the point,
the focus which men lose beyond disjoint.
To be a god among men, and unloved,
is woe: even wild beasts are not unmoved
by these fragmented, lone, unearthly souls,
for whom the scroll of history unrolls.
Man, being so much better than feral beasts,
should eschew (and end!) the vile, evil feasts
of his ire: then love these wide-browed seers, men
and women like the wielder of this pen.

black clouds threaten in rumbling roars
and thunderous waves across the hills
life unrolls the worst it has to offer

and in our innocence we wonder
what has made the gods so angry
that our illusions so easily be crushed

dreams extinguished as castles crumble
grown men falling to their knees
cursing both sun and moon above

and again we ask what has made the gods so angry

Completely Strange

Not any longer a trace
On Clement’s Peace Maker’s face
Of a once-waiting warm Grace
That would up a cold heart brace
And it ready for embrace.

When Clement unrolls his pace
On the next man urges race
Of one facing a fierce chase
One must beat to win one’s case!

A picture completely strange,
No more familiar the change;
A Time Bomb of a Mind
Now a full hour behind!

Clement no more his paths finds,
Clement’s hands and feet he binds;
Now an awkward lizard’s nod
For opinions he’d judged odd

Mental Injury Is Not Mental Illness Essential To Know

14 years confused on a pitch without the goals
never knowing how I fell through so many holes
as each I fell through another would unfold
the brain just couldn't process storing in the vault
to later analyse and process the result
but storage overflowed and the circuit cut short
a breakdown stopped their process postponing the report
the brain was overwhelmed from continuous assault
it's called a mental breakdown retreat from the revolt
rebooting only vital zones and limiting your thoughts
thanks to overwhelming stress continuous and cold
flight or fight for too long sees hormones flood the skull
changing how the mind works and the person on the whole
misdiagnosed depression through symptoms it unrolls
but rain floods are not a sea these hormones will dissolve
psychiatric injury doesn't stay until you're old
it's not a mental illness that doctor can't solve
injuries repair themselves, a bruise a scar a hole
people caused your pain, don't let them be involved

Cape, strength and the mask- of one in disguise
dawn, the light shinning through- here in my world
Oh.. to see your identity- those eyes
Dodging everything at you being whirled

My Superman!! Defender of things right
Power, your ability to stand tall
here in my world, shining through, is your light
lift me where I belong- above it all

A fairy-tail, a fantasy, some bliss
truth, somersaults- while flying out of sight
My hero- you are something just like this
Dodging everything, even Kryptonite

Cape, strength and the mask- of one in disguise
Oh.. to see your identity- those eyes

Meth Addiction

Sneaks in like a stealthy and silent thief
Hiding in the cover of darkness
Unrolls its evil desire
To take all of you and leave no remnants
Cells dying, body destroyed
Force of destruction
Like a tornado wind that blows
Through all that love you
 in your path
Always on the brink
Of that ever so narrow edge
The tears of an ocean fall like rain
From mother’s broken hearts
Endless torture
Of past regrets
Wishes upon dandelions and daisies
 And Stars
Rainbows with their pots of gold
Prayers to the One on High
Seemingly deafened ears, but maybe not…
Elephant in the room
Always there
Night-time terror
But sometimes hope!
Time is ticking
Time goes on
Day after day
Week after week
Angels surround
Beckoning from mother’s prayers
Hope, hope and more hope!!
The clock is running out

Kansas Summer Highway

The sun skips across the Kansas summer sky
as Flint hills run in waves around the horizon.
The Kansas wind scampers around the tall grass
causing leaves, twigs and garbage to roll across the prairie
fusing to timeworn wooden fence posts.

A stretch of murky tape unrolls to just over the next ridge.
Every time the next hill is crested it rolls itself out
just a little bit more.

The gilded prairie grass fox-trots in the wind.
While scattered bleak patches every few miles
signal the season’s burning has begun.

The wearisome on and on of the straight highway
can lead you to a fog through which you miss
all the subtle differences within a Kansas Landscape.

Premium MemberWatching Victoria Legrand Perform 'Elegy To the Void'

Listen: The Lyrical Lilt
that lilac
and lavender
lend to our language,
like leased luggage purposefully lost,
unrolls from lifted
tongue
to level the valley
and shallow
the depths of the gorge.

            *   *   *

A full closet of linens,
I oftentimes find
the beach in symphony;
the hour arching shoreline a stable bow
whose melody is fizz of the ocean.

It is there, beneath a balcony of velvet celebrity,
the sand receives the water,
bends at the lunar altar,
and acknowledges a driftwood cloud.

            *   *   *

There is a weed of sadness woven
through untilled soil
in this garden of thorns kept far from their rose,

where, still, I cannot help
but to tap my feet to the hum of this ancient rhythm,
anxious for movements left uncomposed,
my ear tightly pressed to a frail pink shell,
swelling in ghostly lullaby.

Premium MemberButterfly Dreams

Might butterflies have thoughts, have dreams?
I doubt that man can know
Though beautiful to see in flight
They hatch where flowers grow
And not to please the eye of one
That's merely passing by
Reminding him of passion's dance
Mute fireworks, distant sky.

Are colors all that draw them in
Does nectar have a link?
Is sweetness by itself a draw
That doesn't fill a sink,
Bereft of color still have pull,
A fragrance that it owns,
Or value that's more limited
A 'white noise' blend of tones?

Most butterflies take meals through straws
They join with after birth!
I gasp to share in Nature's awes,
The miracles of Earth!
'Proboscis' it rolls up, unrolls
To plumb a plume's display,
Where nectar hides from dawn's patrols,
That swells in Spring's foreplay.

If you have had such thoughts as these
The truth is Science knows
And shares with us that butterflies
Both smell and taste with toes!
Was I surprised to hear this fact!
They smell before they see,
And scent hits other notes as well,
A fragrant symphony!

Premium MemberVisioning In Liquid Black

Looking into the black crystal
I prognosticate;
the future unrolls
as a sheet of silk.

Swirling, curling, unfurling;
auric waves pin wheeling
in the blackness
of the stones heart.

Energies tickle my skin
soul-melding transmission beamed
through my all-seeing eye;
I am terrorized, traumatized,
elated and mesmerized.

In visions of a future, bleak
tiny happy diamonds peep
through occlusions both
shallow and ever so deep.

Black crystal tells me,
all is not lost, but for our ills
 we must pay the cost.
