Shine Like A Star

Author Dana Redricks
April 14, 2024

Amidst a sea of faces, you shine bright, a star so unique, a dazzling light. Your talent, a gift like a guiding light, fueling your journey, you take me far.

In a world so vast, you stand apart, what makes you special, a work of art. Unique and one of a kind, it's true, in every way, the world sees you.

Embrace your gifts, let them unfold, like a story waiting to be told. You're special, you're unique, you're rare, a shining star beyond compare, you're compassionate, and you fill with tenderness, love, and care. You fill my soul, you're a faithful friend who is always there.

Dichotomy

My job is in the office,
My bread is in the kitchen,
Yet it haunts me as
My life I am losing.

My dream tells me so -
The only way to vision her
Long brown hair.
Autumn, wood, cacao, seeds.

My clothes are in the closet,
My neighbours next door,
Still this plague wins
Called loneliness.

Ghosts in their chilly houses
Seem a relative now.
Not too special a day
Was Hallow’s eve.

The loss of a child, can be quite hard, to bare,
it’s just not the natural order and it will never seem fair.
Our children are everything, we give them our all.
They get every hug and kiss, and we pick them up when they fall.

I remember a little boy who I have not seen, in quite a while.
His laugh was infectious and I can still see his smile.
He is now a grown man, but that is not what I see.
I just see that little boy, laughing and smiling back at me.

He was a part of something special, a family that I love and adore.
They helped mend my broken heart, and never shut their door.
Weekends at the lake and holidays spent in their home,
in my hour of need, they made sure that I was never alone.

No greater love have I seen, in all my days,
than that of this family, with their kind and generous ways.
It’s been twenty-five years since this young boy was born,
I am sorry for your loss, and now with you I will mourn.

Premium Member Getting To Know Dressy Reindeer

Dressy reindeer was given a marvelous outfit to wear.
To show off to the rest of the herd, most amazed and aware.
She was something special, a reindeer to admire and revere.
Many of the male reindeer admired her flirtatious rear.

Dressy reindeer was fashionable, dressing in Parisian clothes.
She never seemed to be common or had our regular woes.
I admired her from afar, and was never her confident or friend.
Intimidated by her for decades of years, until the end.

When I did finally meet her, we got along in a blazingly good way.
She would always ask me to linger a bit longer to have a nice stay.
I think of all those years where her beauty intimidated me.
Feeling guilty about generalizing her, I would stay a bit longer for tea.

Believe it or not her woes were the same as the rest of our woes.
She had lots of weird fetishes, she was afraid of humble plain clothes.
Her husband had been a rounder, finding other ladies pretty.
I stayed and admired her, her sense of humor was witty.

Premium Member Better Men

I keep meetin 'em
don't really understand
why..
eyes always lookin ahead
calm..
slow to rile
yet quick to
lend a hand.

Kiss their mother on the cheek
sayin a last goodbye..
going off to chase their fortune
never knowin' why.

Boys most, not yet men,
practiced at the two step.
farmers some..
worked out on the plain
died in foreign holes
to lilting strains of
Lili Marleen.

So special a rare thing,
wearin a toothy smile..
singin' praises of home
we'll all be home
in just awhile.

Necks turned dark,
cracked and creviced
under so many suns
they were good sons
the ones I knew.

Such a steadfast course,
their bright future laid in,
hoping just the same
the pews they prayed in.

Full o' song with hearts unfurled,
now to waylaid dreams,
fine leaders of another world,
all better men than me.

Premium Member The Broken Locket

A small cameo rests inside a velvet-lined chest
Its latch broken, there’s a faded picture inside,
A thumbnail-sized sketch of her handsome best
Has rested inside it since Great-Grandpa died.
Her cameo’s been treasured through the years
Passed through generations with loving care,
Which once was handled through flowing tears
Now is a shrine, revered with a lock of her hair.
Once it hung on a silver chain around her neck,
We occasionally saw her gently fondle it there
As she spoke of her lover, she gave it a peck,
Placing the lock of her braid with a loving flair.
Grandpa gave it to her on their wedding day
An extra special reminder of their marital bliss
It was something special, a family heirloom
Occasionally, I saw my mother give it a kiss.
The broken locket, a gift from a loving groom,
Merits a special honored place in my bedroom.

Premium Member The Rest of Them Mourn Grandpa

The rest of them mourn grandpa’s death in a sad way.
My dog Shep and I honor him on this cool fall day.
The others walk around crying, moaning he is gone.
Shep and I head for the lake, the one we used to fish on.

Grandpa is here with us, I can feel him in the moon.
We sit side by side, Shep and I, in silent commune.
Grandpa winks from the stars, the lake and the trees.
I shiver a bit as he sends us a reassuring brisk breeze.

Grandpa was special, a character, I adored him so.
I did not want him to leave, but it was time for him to go.
I am so glad you are out of pain, I tell him. God smiles at us.
You were such a great grandpa, I tell him. I love you, Gus!

Should we camp here? I ask Shep, and we curl down and around.
We lie down in our tiny tent, feeling safe on the hard Kansas ground.
Grandpa is here for sure, I can smell his tobacco and I feel his soul.
I know he is safely in heaven; the ultimate goal.

Rise

Author Dana Redricks
November 16, 2020

Rise, a new day has begun. It's time to rise. Rise above the pain, stand for what you believe. Rise above the ashes. Look forward and see your destiny. You are free to be.
Free to love, and free to laugh.
Rise to a new way of living. Embrace yourself, love yourself, and be yourself. Rise and hold your head up high don't you know you're special, a diamond in the rough. You have been through so much. Rise because you have come so far. God blessed you and he will keep you. He will lift you up from where you are so you will rise to the promise land.

Premium Member Good, Bad, Special

My family thinks I am good-
as matriarch- it's understood
     I keep us all tight-
     with love, we unite-
keep bonds fortified as we should.

However, at times I am bad-
for when I feel down- to be glad-
     I need my own space
     seclusion embrace
to work out whatever is sad.

My special- a pastime, so fine-
I try to write poems that shine
     so readers can see
     the thoughts that make me
a builder of words that define.

Premium Member A Life To Look Forward To

I could see your face this morning, with the rising of the sun.
Once again, I'm captivated, but such a beautiful one.
As I look across this land, I see such beauty and such grace.
I can see you every where, the glow of your pretty face.

You are always on my mind, my thoughts are now all yours.
I now know in my heart, you're the one I've been searching for.
No longer do I feel empty, no longer do I feel lost
I'm thankful every single day, that our paths did finally cross.

As I look up to the morning sky, through the fog and all of the mist.
I can't wait to see your eyes, and taste your cherry red lips.
My heart will always stay this way, just thinking about you.
You've given me something special, a life to look forward to.

Premium Member As Far As You Can See

I spread my arms, like wings
To embrace love that sings
That reaches my mind with peace
While my wishes and hope increase
Inspiration flows with words to me
I welcome to keep for eternity
You are special, a light to shine
All that you’ve given, grateful is mine
To cherish, as if you’re in my arms
With all your invigorating charms
I am here for you, however I can be
Forever, simply, as far as you can see

The Gift In Me

Author Dana Redricks
January 20, 2019

God took what was broken in me used
it for his glory
My story became my testimony
Although my body is filled with pain I fill
this overwhelming joy God has given me
eternal peace and a gift to helped
others
God has used my struggles to understand
others
I have desire to inspire others God has give me
something special a gift just me
A gift to share with all those all around me
Instead of looking at what you cannot do
instead look at the gifts God has given you to
set others free
Doing all for God's glory leading them to Christ
Who paid the cost for our sin so we can
have a hope and a future at the end

Premium Member Lost In Cyberspace

One day we met in an unlikely place
I longed to see and touch your face
But I couldn't, you lived in cyberspace
We became friends fast, you're my ace
What we have is special, a virtual chase
You came into my heart without a trace?
Yesterday we ate dinner and I wore lace
Bought you flowers and I put them in a vase
You sent me a book with a lovely bookcase
People said our love affair is a disgrace
How? What we have no one can replace
Non believers can take their opinions to space

Premium Member A True Delight

Well, we watched a movie at home tonight
A Peter Sellers special, a true delight"
'Revenge of the Pink Panther,' from 1976
It was full of sight gags and amazing tricks

If you haven't ever seen it, you really should
They don't make movies today that are this good
You'll laugh so hard that your sides will ache
So click it on the Internet, for goodness sake!

      Happy New Year, Fellow Soupers!
