Paper crisp, dead brown, leaves
cluster between the straggly vines.
The potted purple petunias valiantly
hold their final blooms, alive and regal
within death’s grip, refusing to surrender....

Sewing the Seeds of Discontent
Perhaps a magic beanstalk would appear!
I grinned and potted up the seeds;
I'd raid the giant's castle, drink his beer...
but by the dawn, I'd grown more weeds.

Potted Meat Sal,
Glued a Duckpond to Old Val,and in the winter, she collected Pearly Queens,
But instead of fish and carrots, she had parrots in her slippers,
And two miles of the M40 in her jeans....

Peter's Party
Peter put up potted plants on paths and patted himself
Pasted posters on pitted parts where people paid to pee
Praised and panned , through pleas and plans, pots and pans he banned
Pipped at the post in poles and piqued, he put it all on press....

Amber alerts light up my phone;
tornado warnings jar the mind.
But lately from a source unknown:
a notice of another kind.

There's grave concern for potted meat;
I wonder if they'll stop and frisk.
It really has me curious:
what's up with spam, and what's the risk?...

Be in no hurry, grow as you may, bending and turning whichever way. Water I will, and water I must, water, until you bout, had enough. Placed in the window facing the sun, to put on a show you're having fun. As the day settles groomed for the night, grow as you may beneath the moon's light.

I sat myself, by myself…..
Tired, tired of waiting.
Inside I sit like a potted cactus,
Gussied up for the pic.
Don’t know what possessed this dick.

The wide world’s outside
Ancestors pride, the mountains side,
the deserts dance;
yet, here I sit in cowboy? getup?

Like a potted cactus
Gussied up for the pic....

Just chewing a FRESH tomato
from off my potted plant
babied it all winter long
mmmmmm tastey
in a trance

sucking my teeth
smacking my lips
getting every DE LI CI OUS morsel
the mayonnaise has graced the space
between the bready foursome!

Just chewing a RIPE tomato
grew all by myself
lickin’ all the juicy juice
off my salt fingered self!...

Potted Plant on the Window-Sill
By Edvard Munch 1882

I do not thrive
Yet I am here
Once nurtured
Now left to own devices
Viewer of the world as it passes by
I can choose to lean towards the sun
Or wither in the dank dark airless room
I cannot leave
But I can lean towards the sun
Ready to thrive
When I am noticed once again...

I ran and jumped behind a potted plant, but you found me
I got away, but briefly, and was not discovered for almost six minutes.
But my breathing was too deep, and you heard, and conquered.
I keep peeling myself away, but you reeled me back, and swiftly.
I never before realized how hard it is to get away from ideas.
You have won now, so, what my dear, is my next step, pray tell?...

One Sunflower's Life
One Sunflower’s Life Please, oh, please Don’t dig me For I have just begun to grow. “Did I hear a weed’s soft voice? Did it bid me make a choice”? My curious heart deemed it so. Each day a tender stalk I nourished Tiny wild ruffled leaves flourished; Foot after foot they reached. Turned toward the sun its golden face Claims its oddly potted place, Its veracity to teach.

Patio
I stand, staring out
the French door windows,
admiring the new patio
I painstakingly built by hand.

Each brick, each tile
laid with precision.

Every potted plant
perfectly placed to
compliment the view
of the freshly pruned
hedges that round
the curtilage.

My wife would have
truly appreciated the
artistry and detail

Perhaps her spirit
still can...

from her earthen bed
beneath the tiles....

Invigilation
These furrows, littered with bags,
Separate stalks
Bent over and inclined to suns of ambition –
And escape.

These shoots grow relentlessly –
In spite of me.
These saplings break the ground
And Send down roots
That anchor them in soils that are too
alkaline.

These ones, potted and clumped, shrubbed,
Must one day stand alone?
And sway in the wind
as the old trees do outside
Just beyond
This grid-like field
In an old decaying greenhouse?...

Baked Shepherd's Pie
Poverty Slop and
jowls of ground beef.

Saliva to corn
that's creamed to belief.

Mashed silk potatoes
spread over the tongue

sealing meat in
to covered and mung.

Tin pan the Shepherd.
A pie sitting heavy.

A feast for a King
and the bowels of a levy.

Full potted tummy.
A growling way down.

Back taste of kernels.
A hunger been drown.

Baked Shepherd's Pie
asleep in the oven.

Morning to eyes
like those of the sloven....

A Liars Theme
A TWISTED WORD
NOT BY MISTAKE
WILL SPLIT THE TONGUE
THAT IT FORSAKES…
WHAT WAS THE TRUTH
BECOMES THE LIE
THAT FEEDS THE NEED
TO ONES DEMISE…
THE DISHONEST CLAIM
SELF PRESERVATION
BUT IT’S FOSTERED BY
FALSE INSPIRATION
THEN LEFT TO GROW
LIKE POTTED WEEDS
CONSUMING MUCH MORE
THAN IT NEEDS…
AND THOSE WHO
ALWAYS HESITATE
WHEN TRUTH BE KNOWN
AND MAKE IT WAIT
OR DISGUISE IT AS
WHAT ANOTHER’S DONE
TO MAKE THEM FEEL
THAT THERE IS NONE…...
