One Sunflower's Life
One Sunflower’s Life
Please, oh, please
Don’t dig me
For I have just begun to grow.
“Did I hear a weed’s soft voice?
Did it bid me make a choice”?
My curious heart deemed it so.
Each day a tender stalk I nourished
Tiny wild ruffled leaves flourished;
Foot after foot they reached.
Turned toward the sun its golden face
Claims its oddly potted place,
Its veracity to teach.
